Default JBs Scouting:Draft Day Sleepers

DRAFT DAY SLEEPERS

Either the media doesn’t know who these guys are or they are vastly underrating them. This group could be taken late in the draft or have a shot to make a roster or practice squad and aren’t getting the love they deserve.

WR JOE HASTINGS, WASHBURN
He’s 6’0, 190 pounds and lacks blazing 4.3 speed so nobody is giving him much of a chance but Hastings runs good routes and has great hands. His trademark this year was making circus catches and he showed that in the Cactus Bowl. He’s has several teams call about him and is a player who warrants some late round consideration because his hands should keep him around when teams make final cuts. You simply find a roster spot for a guy like this.

DE KEITH DARBUT, BALDWIN-WALLACE
Darbut wasn’t a known commodity until he ran a 4.38 40 at his pro day. At 6’4, 230 pounds he is light for a linebacker and he is raw and hasn’t faced top level competition so there should be concerns but his 1.42 10-yard, 38-inch vertical, and 4.38 40 show his explosiveness making him a player with upside worth taking a gamble on late in the draft and hiding on a practice squad.

SS TOMMY IRVIN, WOFFORD
Irvin doesn’t have great hips and he’s not overly fast (4.58 40) but he is a very good tackler and a well put to
gether kid who could be a box safety and special teamer in the NFL. He’s got good strength which he showed on the bench press (20 reps) and is worth taking a shot on in the 7th round or signing after the draft and developing on the practice squad.

TE COLIN COCHART, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
Cochart is a very good blocker and he showed against Nebraska that he can play with anyone. I have always loved those guys who started at least three years and were all-conference from the time they stepped on the field and Cochart is that. While he is an outside shot to be drafted he’s a guy who I expect to see on a practice squad, at the very least.
