Draft 2011: Third Day Live Blog

Cowboys 4th Round pick David Arkin
6:24 -- The Dallas Cowboys finish their draft day by picking Wisconsin offensive lineman Bill Nagy.

The NFL Network, by chance, had Wisconsin head coach Brent Bielema on set when Nagy was picked. He described his guy as a lineman who missed a season after injuring a foot. Nagy played a variety of blocking spots for the team -- tight end, guard and center. He's 300 plus pounds and strong.

Nagy tested well at the Badgers pro day and offers Dallas another interior offensive line developmental option. Bielema named center as Nagy's best position.

4:55 -- The Dallas Cowboys select FB Shaun Chapas from Georia. Here's the fullback. The fourth fullback on the board and one the Cowboys clearly preferred to Henry Hynoski. He's another solid member what appears to be a solid fullback class. It does appear that all the Cowboys picks thus far have a legitimate chance to make the team. Chapas will give Chris Gronkowski a run for his job.

Thought I'd share some Draft facts with you. I just finished updating the Roster series thread to reflect these Draft picks. I don't add them to the roster until they actually make the team.

#9. Tyron Smith, OT, USC.
He is the 13th player we've drafted from USC. The last was Buehler in 2009

#40. Bruce Carter, LB, North Carolina. He is the 7th player we've drafted from North Carolina, but the first since Ebenezer Ekuban in 1999.

#71. DeMarco Murray, RB, Oklahoma.
He is the 10th player we have drafted from Oklahoma. The last was Manuel Johnson in 2009.

#110. David Arkin, OL, Missouri St.
He is the first player we have ever drafted from Missouri State and is only the 2nd player ever drafted from that school, the first was an Eagles pick last year.

#143. Joshua Thomas, DB, Buffalo.
He is the first player we've ever drafted from Buffalo, and the 9th player ever taken form that school.

#176. Dwayne Harris, WR, East Carolina. He is the 5th player we've taken from East Carolina. The last was Robert Jones in 1992, a 1st rounder for us.

#220. Shaun Chapas, FB, Georgia. The 10th player we've selected from Georgia. The last was Bruce Thornton in 2004.

#252. Bill Nagy, C, Wisconsin. He is the 5th player we've taken from Wisconsin. The last was Al Johnson in 2003. He was 2 picks away from being the Cowboys 3rd player ever as Mr. Irrelevant.

Jason Garrett breaks down Day 3

Bill Nagy: "A guy who, going into the 2009 season, was going to be a starter, got into a moped accident, and wasn’t able to play that year. Became a backup going into this year because the guy who took his place became an established player. He got a chance due to injury to play about half the games this year, and really did a nice job. As an offensive lineman, you like how he plays, he jumps out at you when watch him, how he finishes, how he plays with intensity and tenacity. We really liked him as well. He’s a very athletic guy too, he ran about as well as any of the interior linemen in the draft."
