Default Personal workouts question

Are the Cowboys allowed to request that draft prospects compete against players already on the team? For instance, is it within the rules to have Jenkins or Kirkpatrick try to cover Dez and Miles during a full day's workout, so as to see how they fare against top-flight pro competition? I seem to recall Aikman throwing passes to Gonzalez and LaFleur before the 1997 Draft.

Yes and no, it can not be "organized" nor can it be "mandatory".

If Dez perhaps ran into Kirkpatrick at the local park and the Cowboys FO was having a picnic that same day all would be good.

Brooking met with Sean Lee at the Cowboys facility for several hours on his visit. It was just coincidence they ended up in the same film room............

I get the "mandatory" part, but does that mean that no Cowboy coaches or scouts were in attendance when Aikman threw to those two TEs? If they were, that would scream "organized."

you would think so but like if a coach or member of the FO is not "participating" there is nothing saying a prospect, a current player and a coach can not be in the same general area at the same time.

Basically what I'm saying is it's a piss poor rule that gets circumvented a 1000 different ways but it prevents teams from having organized work outs with prospects and current players. I'm sure if it was not in place we would have some hot shot prospect blow an ACL tripping over a NFL CB and well...........you know what happens after that.
