They played a lot of snaps? Seriously. You've OD'd on koolaid, man.

I understand where he is coming from. There are a lot of first round picks who totally crap out and never even become starters for or significant contributors to the teams who drafted them. These two were here for 5 years each, both starting at times and at least still playing in games if not starting the rest of the time.
I would agree they weren't GOOD picks, but they were not wasted. Wasted is a Vernon Golston, Tim Couch, Aaron Maybin, etc, etc...

Should have dumped this china doll for any reasonable picks when they were offered. Between the hang nails and fear of contact, this guy was another bust.

This has been my problem with Jenkins all along. I know he's a tackling wimp, but the problem I have always had is that the guy gets injured each time he's touched. He's a solid cornerback, but when he was starting, I found myself holding my breath each time he tackled someone and did not immediately pop-up.

It doesn't really matter, much, since the outcome isn't any different if the team doesn't resign them. But koolaid has nothing to do with it. Given the short lifespan of NFL careers, I consider players who are drafted but who never contribute meaningful snaps or who eventually start but get replaced during their initial contracts to be busts. Players who start meaningful snaps early and play out their deals I consider to be pushes because these guys are capable of playing at the NFL level and there's a reason to replace adequate starters with younger ones after 4 years if you think they won't continue to have upside or you think you can fill the position more cheaply. Jenkins, Felix, Spencer (he's in a slightly different boat since the team obviously franchised him). These players weren't outright busts, they just weren't good enough to justify extensions. And the real hits are the guys you want for two or three contracts.
If it makes you feel better to say that everyone who doesn't make a second NFL contract with their drafting team is a bust, have at it, but this league is full of players who've moved on after that initial deal and played really, really well in their next stops. I'm not sure what it says about this board right now that people can't see that for what it is, but it sure says something.

LOL that depends on how high the pick was doesn't it?
By the end of 2014 Romo will not be starting for the cowboys and the most popular phrase on the board will be..."see I knew we shouldn't have signed him to that big contract".

In a way, yeah. It hurts more when your high-probability picks don't become multi-contract starters. So, relative to expectations there's more of a dropoff between what was hoped for and what was received.
I think the goal of drafting well should be to have a higher percentage of your draft picks start for you than your competition does. Hitting on multi-contract guys is a big help in that regard since it locks down a position for 8-10 years. A four-year starter isn't the end of the world. The guys you take who can't play regularly for you are the ones that really hurt.
And, of course, the term 'starter' here should be expanded to include specialty players and roles like nickle-cornerbacks and third-down specialists. I'd have used the word 'contributor' but it's too subject to varying interpretation.

Just in case you did not know Jerry owns the one of thebest MRI facility in the DFW metroplex which happens to be over in the Valley Ranch compound. I have first hand knowledge of its greatness. Seemed to be very busy when I had mine done.
