And yet the Colts and the Redskins did go and grab these guys. The Redskins through trade, the Colts through something close to intentional losing. Both of which the Cowboys could have done.

I'm not naive, I know Romo isn't in the Brady, Manning, Rodgers, Brees, class. But he's right below those guys and just as good as guys like Ryan, Rivers, Stafford, Bradford, Vick, etc etc.
|
Then you should recognize that he isn't quite good enough.

Ryan Tannehill - a rookie who shows a lot of promise. He's got the size and the pedigree and the arm but he makes rookie mistakes and is not half the athlete Romo is. He could be good to great someday or he could be a guy who never materializes into a great QB. He's got a ways to go and there are no guarantees. Do you really want to wait two or three more years to find out because if you do say goodbye to Ware and Witten, Ratliff, and a big core of this team.
[View Full Quote]Ryan Fitzpatrick - a classic middle of the road QB. He can have big games but is a statue in the pocket. In fact when I watch him move around it actually shocks me how much more of an athlete Romo is. He is tentative in his throws and still makes bad decisions. The thing is he doesn't have the star power or ability to make up for those throws and has to trudge his way through and hope his defense and special teams pull it out like they did tonight. But here's the thing, the Buffalo Bills are an NFL team who are all in on him because they believe this guy can win and face it, they have no other options -- see also the Chiefs, Vikings, Cardinals, Jets, etc.
That's exactly where we were with the revolving door before Romo.
I'll take the rollercoaster thrill a minute Romo ride who gives us at least a chance to win a Super Bowl and enjoy every excruciating, brilliant, sometimes brutal second of it until he can no longer play before I ever get on the rookie or average Joe ferris wheel and scream from boredom with no hope.
When we have to start over, we start over and I'll be onboard, but not before.
Not ever.

Can we make the playoffs first before you start a thread like this? What if Romo plays like POOP the next 2 games and we fall to 4-7?

its all Romo's fault why this team is average every year?

who are trading all these picks for anyway? A guy that you dont even know exsists yet? A team that has zero depth, average talent, and a average record year after year and you want to trade all our picks for a QB that you dont even know who it may be, when we have a QB already?

I was advocating trading Romo for a 1st & 2nd next year and a 1st in 2014. We need picks and as many as we can get. I would even entertain picks for Ware at this point.
Time to start over with younger players, my friend... Who could we get those picks from = Buffalo, Jacksonville, Arizona, Oakland just to name a few....

Funny ... you won't even get those picks on Madden.
No one is going to give us all those picks for Romo.
Romo isn't the issue, and at his age, his equity in trades isn't worth his value to the team. He's more valuable as a Cowboy than trading for a 2nd round pick.
He's not the problem.

He is not the problem I'll grant. But, do you actually think that all of these problems ( actual problems with the lines ) will get fixed before Romo settles into a rocking chair. NADA!!! Time to get what we can for our over 30 players and start over. Otherwise, we are going to be an average to below average team for another decade...

Romo isn't as great as his cult wants to make him out to be but that has nothing to do with it.
If we're a 4-12/5-11 type team without him and we're 8-8 with him then his presnece here does more harm then good in the long run. He makes us just good enough not to have any shot at those top college QBs comming out.
If you enjoy mediocrity then resigning your ageing QB should be high on your wishlist

This is about right

Romo is problem #2, Garrett is problem #3, and Jones is problem #1.
Romo's been here with different personnel and can't get it done. We were never going to go anywhere with Romo, and nothing's changed. It's time to start the search for a Top QB in the draft. If it means sucking completely for a year to get him, so be it.

I agree, he will be 33 years old next year so why wouldn't Jerry draft a QB for the future?
