He's being paid a premium on the Patriots practice squad. Patriots pay some players higher on their PS that may drawn interest. He's won some early 'practice player of the week awards' on the Pats. I believe that the Center they were also paying a premium to is now on the Panthers.
You may or may not find a whole lot about him via internet searches, though I'll give my personal analysis for what it's worth...
In my opinion, Matt Kopa would be a great fit here. He's a beast with quick burst, excellent technique, fluid, agile, great hand technique and extremely smart, young with 2+ years in the NFL, great work ethic. Huge wingspan, solid core strength, big dude who also excelled in basketball in High School.
Also played Defensive End and even special teams.

Sure. But when a team pays a premium to ps guy it is an agreement that he will play out the year on that squad. Not contractual, but clearly implied

Yeah, but what do we care what implications they have?
We should do everything and anything we can do make our football team better.

You guys are way over thinking this thing. If we sustain another injury to an OT, Jerry still has Flo on speed dial. If Flo don't pick up, then we just start Orton.
Problem solved!

Sure --but his agents is going to tell us no b/c he knows he'd screw himself with the Pats from there on out if he did this. This isn't just about "we should get him" -- there are implications for others that will prevent this from happening

I don't think it works like that.
He can't 'refuse' to sign with another team because of some side deal in New England.
It's collusion and goes directly against the intentions of the practice squad.
Any team that was 'turned down' would go straight to the league office.
Now the Pats may very well add him to their active roster...

he can definitely refuse. of course, he would not come out and say it is because the patriots have made promises to him. but he can choose to do whatever he wants.

That not correct. We've kept guys by simply raising their ps pay. This is similar. Also players may prefer one situation over another. Like being on a team that is likely to go deeper in the playoffs so they continue to get paid

It looks like you guys are right.
I stand corrected.
Thanks for the info!
