I haven't followed the Payton situation at all. Can someone explain why he's been discussed possibly coaching somewhere other than NO next year?
Has his contract actually been voided? Is this something that will be resolved soon?
I guess the most pertinent question is........is his inclusion on this list a pipe dream?

I've said it all in more detail in previous threads, but I think the team's getting a lot deeper. I think the criticism of the play calling is massively overrated. I think it's the turnovers that are keeping us from winning games, and that has to stop. I think this year's injuries have been significant, and in positions where we were poorly-equiped to sustain them. I think Garrett's an excellent organizer and coach during the week, he's assembled a really good staff all-around, and has done a great job of getting the players on the same page.
The penalties perplex me, and his clock-management is weak. But, as I keep saying, it's the turnovers on offense and the lack of turnovers on defense that are getting us beat, and I don't believe they're all on the head coach--though it is obviously his job to fix them.
When asked whether Jason Garrett is the right head coach for this team: "I don't think there is anyone else that could. I think he is an unbelievable coach. We've responded to him and he has made us better football players, better people. If you watch us I think we play with a certain relentless spirit." --Sean Lee

Maybe it is simply perception, as I have not analyzed it any deeper than recalling memory of the games I've watched, so obviously bias error can be added; however it seems that Felix Jones gets inside runs, despite being garbage without open space, Dez gets no deep passes until we're down 2-3 TDs despite being faster than most CBs. We ice our own kicker... etc. blah blah you've heard the comments...
It seems that once his game-plan is required to be thrown out; that we start to see more success, maybe that is because of other teams loosening up once they're in the lead, however that's an interesting strategy that hasn't gotten us far...
What I'm trying to say is that perceptually JG playcalling is a problem. The only way to truly test this Hypothesis is to create a control; unfortunately or fortunately if you have my perspective the only way to do that is to remove him from the equation, gather results, and then compare before and after.
I'm not exactly afraid of being wrong. The negative outcome of 'being wrong about Garrett' leads us to a worst case of we get a Super Bowl Winning coach. I think it would be a nice injection in the culture should we have a Head Coach who has documented proof that their 'process' garners results, maybe one that 'expects' to win, rather than hopes for it. That doesn't golf clap for our bad plays... I get the stoic gimmick, but I don't believe it, neither do his players, nor anyone else watching, hence the lack of respect he obtains from the 'Mob Mentality Fan'.
Granted, all of these Fresh Coaching options would be quite surprising to actually come true, it may be a dream, but considering we have little else to do till the draft, I don't think it will hurt any to dream on...

Payton is not coming back.
There will be better options available.
I can't believe so many of you think he will.

I don't know. It's easy to say the success happens when the game plan gets thrown out, but hard to know when the game plan actually gets thrown out.
What I see are a lot of execution errors early that get us into tough spots where we have to throw too much. The execution errors are on the HC, too, squarely, and I don't want to give the impression they aren't. But we've had them for a long time going back to before Garrett got here. I'm honestly not sure what the problem is, so it's hard to guess at the solution.
What I know gets us beat, though, aside from speculation about how good Felix is at inside running or how often we should throw to Dez deep, is the turnovers. You can't win giving up the ball like we do. That's on the head coach, too, but I think he had a reasonable plan for addressing it this season, and that that plan was the first casualty of the injuries to Murray and along the OL. I'd like to see it put into action to see if he was on the right track or not.

Yeah. Shocking. Just because some things are wrong with this team, I don't think everything is wrong with this team. I believe there's a reason we've won about half of our games. Go figure.

We must have different definitions of what 'on the same page' means.
I see so much pre snap confusion on both sides of the ball, there is no way more than a handful of people are on the same page. People dont know where to line up, dont know the plays, and its often times a fire drill comedy show trying to get the 11th player on the field on defense and special teams.

I know, I know. You don't like our team. You've mentioned that.
But that's not was I was referring to, in any event. In that particular post, I was referring to how the team sounds when they talk about their preparation. They say the same things, and it's obvious they've bought into the coaches' message. I could have been more explicit.
To your other stuff, I think there's a reason for the communication that goes on on both sides of the ball on the field, too, and think you're misreading it if you think it's all confusion stemming from poor coaching.
