Are they going to let Tyson keep it once the regular season starts?

Get that number off that kids back please! No offense to Tyson but that number should be issued at least for a few seasons. I know the Cowboys dont retire numbers but they should hold off on certain numbers for a few seasons.

As Gordon stated, no retired numbers. The equipment manager, use to be Mike McCormick I believe, maybe still is, or his son is now.

Anyway, he was responsible to handing out numbers. Usually veterens coming in if available got their previous teams numbers. If they were taken, then they negotiated with the player to get that number. There are only 2 numbers at one time that were not and may never issued, and now will be several more.

12 Staubach
74 Lilly, but I think it was worn in camp, but not the season
and now
8 Aikman
22 Smith

I am actually surprixed 33 was given out a few times.

I like Woody, but come on. That number is not sacred.

I have zero problem with TT wearing it this year.

If #88 can be worn by Jackie Harris, Antonio Bryant, and now Brett Pierce, then #28 can be worn by anyone.

With the history of this franchise there will always be numbers that newer players will wear that belonged to former greats, all I ask is the guy wearing it does the number proud by going out and and producing

True, Drew Pearson thought it was great Micheal Irvin wore #88 and Irvin said the same wen it was given to Antonio Bryant (pre the jersy throw).

I'm sure Emmitt would say the same if JJ was given 22 and not 21. But it was too soon to do that. If JJ came along in a year or two, then Emmitt would probably be all for it.

He should keep it...we don't retire numbers. It's no big deal.

Haley and Sanders were hired guns, not "True Cowboys" so I can care less who wears 94 and 21.

I don't believe in team motivation. I believe in getting a team prepared so it knows it will have the necessary confidence

Default Numbers...

No big deal. I pay attention to who is playing rather than the number. To those that the numbers mean a lot, maybe TT will live up to the luster of # 28.
