Default 1-point safety

Does this also occur in the NFL? It happened in tonight's game between Oregon and Kansas State. Oregon was kicking a short field goal, I think a 21 yarder, and a Kansas State player reached his hand up and tip it, the ball landed in the end zone and was downed by a Kansas State player, and Kansas State was awarded 1 point on a safety.

Correction: It was 1 point for Oregon. Oregon just scored a TD and was kicking an extra point. The kick was blocked and recovered between the goal line and the 5 yard line by Kansas State, but Kansas State lateraled it back into their own end zone where they were tackled. So, essentially, Oregon missed the extra point but still got the 1 point.

Can never happen in the NFL. As soon as the try is blocked or the defense takes possession, the play is over.
