5. Brandon Carr: $14.3 million ($16.3 million)

Let me start by saying that Carr is an outstanding cornerback and in no way would the Cowboys even remotely consider letting him go. Carr allowed 7.4 yards per attempt and came up with some major interceptions in his inaugural season in Dallas. My point is that salaries can sometimes be oddly structured, and Carr’s $16.3 million cap charge in 2013 is a hefty sum. The next-highest cap charge for an individual season in Carr’s contract is only $11.1 million in 2016. Carr is worth the overall value of his deal, but he’ll need an All-Pro year to truly be worthy of his $14.3 million base salary in 2013.

4. Mackenzy Bernadeau: $1.8 million ($2.5 million)

I charged Bernadeau with allowing six sacks this year and I provided him with the worst pass protection grade (by far) in my 2012 offensive line review. Although the overall value of his four-year contract is only the 14th-highest in Dallas, I graded Bernadeau so low that he might not even be worth the roster spot.

3. Miles Austin: $6.7 million ($8.3 million)

Take a look at Austin’s yards-after-catch (YAC) per reception over the past four seasons: 7.3, 6.3, 4.7 and 4.6.
