It's always interesting to observe people who are clueless about racism and prejudice...
In the final two months of 2011, Romo’s passer rating was 115.9.

If one is going to let a racial slur being leveled at them get them to the point where they want to fight, then that person is more shallow and insecure than the one uttering it. I get a kick out of people who think that they look like a bad*** by daring one to call them a name.
Whatever.

That said, although I hate the team and most of their ignoramus fans, I think the name should stay.

It is interesting to watch people get offended, or act offended, over everything that has to do with race. It is so easy to claim racism and see racism even when racism is not there.

So you're claiming the term redskin isn't a racial slur? Or are you claiming that it's acceptable to have a racial slur as a professional sports team name?

Are you Native American? I know from your previous post that you see racism in just about anything said or done. You have serious issues. Petty claims of racism only makes people doubt the legit claims that they hear about. I have heard you scream wolf too many times on racism to take your concerns seriously.

Redskins name change?
I caught this tiny article on the Huffington Post:
Quote:
D.C. Mayor Says Time For Redskins Name Change
D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray announced that the Redskins name should change if the football team expects to move from Maryland to a stadium within the District itself.
|
I rooted for the Cowboys to clobber the Redskins all through the 70s and 80s without even once thinking about the other teams' name as some kind of insult. However, in the 90s I read read articles about Native Americans getting upset over the name, saying it's equivalent to calling a black person the N word. I was surprised. I had never heard anyone say to someone, "You redskin" in a disparaging way. I had heard "savage" used that way or possibly "injun" (which to me sounds illiterate). However, I acknowledge I don't know everything. When you look up redskin in the dictionary, it does say that the usage is usually offensive. That was a surprise to me when I first looked it up.
I guess the team might end up changing its name at some point. I wonder what they would change it to. Also, why would they be considering moving out of FexEx field? That's a relatively new field.
Is this political correctness run amok or do the people upset with the Redskins' name have a point?

It needed to never have been named that in the first place. Just because something's not offensive to you, doesn't mean it's not to others. And if it's offensive to others, it's offensive, period.
At some point, someone will say something offensive to us, and it won't be so funny then.
