Default The Defense I want

Look at Denver and Settle. That what I want.
Three big strong DTs and a pass rushing DE. The strong DE would be big but can still rush like Wolfe in Denver and Bryant in Seattle. Oakland uses little of the same with Houston.

Then our LBs would be a pass rushed like Miller and Irvin in Denver and Seattle and Wimbley in Oakland a few years back when they ran this system.

The middle LB would be to cover and stuff the run and the weak side LB would be side line to sideline and cover. Lee and Carter should be able to handle that.

What we need to run this is a Big DT to clog the middle. I think Hatcher and Crawford can play the SDE in this system and Ratliff, Lessimore, and Hatcher can play the one gap DT.

Then we need a pass rushing OLB that can do it all

In the secondary we will play press man like Seattlie and Denver and we have the CBs for that but we do not have the safeties. We need one playmaking safety, center field zone type and we need a in the box cover strong safety that can hit. Sensy and Church might be to.play that position.

That's the style defense I would want Dallas to bring in.

Apparently that is what Jerry wants too. The Seahag game left a big impression on him. They have one of the most under rated players in the league controlling the middle of the D Line, Red Bryant.

Red Bryant plays DE for Seattle. Branch and mebane are the DTs.
That's what I want, big power guy that can nice like Bryant and Houston.

Dallas really scouted Hankins I think for this reason

Branch is a FA I wouldn't mind seeing us go after

I think that the 'Boys can go a number of ways with the personnel they currently have NOT INCLUDING Spencer (you ALL know he is going to want AT LEAST $9M a year now). They could look like this:

RE - Ware
DT/NT - Lissemore/FA/Draft Pick (sleeper pick is Brian Price)
DT/3T - Rat

OR

RE - Ware
DT/NT - Rat
DT/3T - Hatcher
LE - Crawford

LB will also have numerous possibilities. Also, I wonder where Barry Church fits in. They could use him like the Giants did - utilizing your best 11 players could mean, if able to draft a really good S (Vaccaro, Elam, McDonald, etc...), having 3 safeties on the field with one being essentially the WLB or SLB. The Giants did a damn good job with this alignment.

I'd love to take a chance on Glenn Dorsey as a buy low candidate with upside in free agency. He was completely wasted in KC's 3-4, but he was dominant in the 4-3 in college.

Despite labeling myself a "realist", no one understands my pain or appreciates my special truth. Stupid world.

Well, we don't have any guys like Red Bryant. He's basically the 325 pound nose tackle that we never got in all the years we ran the 3-4. If we don't resign Spencer, we basically only have one pure pass rusher in Ware, so we most likely can't do what Denver does, because Denver has another pure pass rusher in Dumervil playing WDE. And I don't think we have the safeties to do what Seattle does.

Pass-Rushing OLB that can do it all? Keep an eye on Sean Porter from A&M. He can do it all. So can Chase Thomas from Stanford. OR, do they draft a traditional "Tampa 2" WLB like Khasim Greene from Rutgers, Arthur Brown from KSU, or Jelani Jenkins from FL and move our Mr. Versatility Bruce Carter to SLB? Ernie Sims could start at WLB and Carter at SLB as well. This move may be easier than folks realize.

The only problem I have with this switch to the 4-3 is I can see it forcing our staff to neglect the problems at safety and O-line while spending all its effort on the front-7.
