Default Did Josh Brent cause all of this?

Did the whole Josh Brent fiasco trickled down to switching DC's and defensive alignments? We were going to be set at NT for years with Brent taking over the aging Ratliff when all of the sudden we were back to square one lining up guys like Lissemore at NT.

Did his bone head mistake cost all these guys their jobs?

Seriously doubt it, but you bring up an interesting take on players' influence on coaching/scheme decisions.

Trent Dilfer: "Tony [Romo] has greatness in him. I think when you talk to other people that really play the quarterback position, there's a few guys that really have incredible greatness in them, and Tony is one of them. I think the issue here is he needs more help from his teammates. I think they are not nearly as talented as people say they are, from 1 to 53. I'm talking about the total roster.”

I have to agree with you.

It had to be something more than that. If Brent was a beast ...we would have seen it. That is not the case here.

maybe it's harder to find a bonifide nose tackle than it is to find a weakside 4-3 linebacker

That's true, imo.

I'm not sure that was a factor though.

On another note--when the Brent incident happened, I actually wondered if Ryan wasn't there as well. He's been known to get after it late himself and is buddy-buddy with the players.
But we would have know by now if he was there.

maybe he was. players boozing it up with a crucial game upcoming was an indictment on whoever is responsible for the team's dicipline. add that to all the stupid penalties. i don't know, these are grown men who should know better.

very interesting post. My answer would be..."probably not"...but this was a great thought-provoking idea and something we'll never know for sure.

The real question is did Brent save Garrett's job.
Ivy League

Jason Garrett offense rank minus Tony Sparano: 18, 14, 7, 15, 15

Redskins rb ran for 200 yards in that last game. So yeah Brent cost them plenty. A win there to make the playoffs and nobody gets fired.

AJ Green's butter hands saved Garrett's job.

That wasn't some inspired coaching performance. That was an opponent choking away a game while simultaneously fooling lots of fans (and one GM) into thinking we were solid.

I think Brent would make this 4-3 even better. I really like the idea of Brent at 1-tech and Hatcher at 3-tech, I really like that idea.

Brent was nothing more than a role player.
