Twitter Jerry Jones Senior Bowl Interview Tweets - 1/22/13

Jean-Jacques Taylor ‏@JJT_ESPNDallas
Just talked to jerry and it certainly sounds like Garrett won't be calling plays and jimmy Robinson won't be coaching WRs

Jerry gives a big no comment on Manti Te'o and his lady

All indications point to Callahan calling the plays, but jerry was short of being definitive

Jerry spin control in full effect, saying it will be Jason's decision not to call plays and it shouldn't be considered step back

Rowan Kavner ‏@KavnerDC
Sounds like Callahan could be calling plays next season. Jones said he wouldn't be opposed to using some of Callahans ideas from OAK

...though he did not specifically state it will be Callahan, he didn't refute it. Emphasized Garrett would be fine with switch.

Calvin Watkins ‏@calvinwatkins
Jerry Jones said any play calling changes doesn't affect the future of WR coach Jimmy Robinson.

mike fisher ‏@fishsports
When Callahan is #Cowboys OC, I hope one thing he doesn't bring from old Raiders playbook is the chapter on losing SBowls on purpose.

Brandon George ‏@dmn_george
Jerry said it was always at his "insistence" that Jason Garrett continue to call plays after becoming HC.

Carlos A. Mendez ‏@calexmendez
Jerry said if you assume new playcaller, and you assume Callahan, you can assume elements of his offenses in the past.

Jerry said he hired Garrett to call the plays. But believes staff that will be in place is capable of freeing him to oversee.

Jerry said if Jimmy Robinson is not wr coach next year, its not because of performance but because of career direction.

So why change an offensive playcalling system that has produced lots of yards under Garrett as HC? Jerry: 'We've been 8-8 the last two yrs.'

Jerry’s money quote: “I’m being influenced by Jason’s judgment not as to what he’s not going to be doing, but what he is going to be doing.”

Jerry says Garrett doesn't have to be sold on play-calling change. “The insistence that he called the plays as well as be head coach is me."

Bryan Broaddus ‏@BryanBroaddus
@AdamsJasonD: What have u heard about Callahan calling plays? And what's your thought?” Believe he will bring toughness in what he tries.

Jon Machota ‏@jonmachota
From all indications coming out of Mobile, Ala., Jason Garrett is done calling plays for the Cowboys and Bill Callahan is taking over

Clarence Hill ‏@clarencehilljr
Jerry jones has not confirmed the new play caller will be bill Callahan but intimated he was the likely choice to replace jason Garrett

Doesn't sound like a decision that Garrett made, if you ask me.

Didn't think Jimmy Robinson did a poor job with the receivers. What gives?

From all the various reports, it's a personal decision by Robinson. I don't think they're forcing him out.

I'd guess it has to do with Assistant HC title

Too bad. He's a good coach.
Is there any reward for good other than good?

Jerry Jones on status of WRs coach Jimmy Robinson: “If he’s not involved it won’t be because of his skills ...more about his own interests."

Hos mentioned in another thread that Robinson might want to retire.

I don't care who calls the plays.

JG has proven that he can motivate men and develop a philosophy. He has also proven that he cannot call plays and manage the game at the same time. Maybe Jimmy Johnson already knew that about himself, or maybe he cared more about pushing the right buttons than calling the plays, and maybe Jason would develop the skills to do both in time, but Jerry is not interested in waiting after two 8-8 seasons where we missed the playoffs by one game twice and had coaching gaffes both seasons. Neither am I.

If Jason's strength proves to be setting the tone and pushing the right buttons, it won't matter so much what plays get called as that the plays are executed.

If he is so great at motivating men, why did this team have such putrid first halves?

There is no evidence he has developed any sort of philosophy.

Not to mention, every head coach in the world has a 'philosophy'. Win games. Be smart. All 3 phases. This isn't exactly ground-breaking on Garrett's part. The difference between the good coaches and the crappy ones is the ability to make that philosophy a reality.

And I don't see anybody motivating men out there save Romo.

Monte Kiffin doesn't understand what this means.
"'Room' always makes me chuckle. That's irrelevant. What we have on a given day really doesn't relate to what you're ultimately going to have and how you're going to manage."
