Early 70s is when I would say it came to a close. At least for me, that's how I remember it. Perhaps I was just too young to see it then but I do believe that players played more for the Game then.

Maybe. I am perhaps a bit too cynical to believe it. Some of those same guys are now suing the NFL for money for their injuries, so it makes it difficult to believe they played more for the game. They just didn't have the power available to them to make the types of choices modern players can and do. Put those guys from the past in current situations and I think they would make many of the same decisions and approach the sport in a similar fashion.

It's possible, as I said, that I just remember it the way I want to. I don't believe that players now suing have direct correlation with how they played or what they believed then. I know that at 30, I was a very different man then I am now. At 20, I was probably unrecognizable in comparison.

The world was different then so it's hard to say what they would or would not do now. If you take that person out of time and place him in the here and now, I don't believe for one second that they would be like players are today. However, if you raised them in today's world, I fully expect that they would be the same kinds of players.
