Default Mort talks Cowboys Super Bowl Chances - 02/09/13 w/audio

NFL analyst: Chances of Cowboys making the Super Bowl are not hopeless with 'championship caliber' QB Tony Romo

NFL analyst Chris Mortensen joined Galloway & Company on KESN-FM 103.3. Here are some highlights:

On the chances of the Cowboys making the Super Bowl next year:
“It doesn’t look hopeless. We don’t know. You don’t know who’s going to emerge. Who won the NFC East this year? The Redskins. Who predicted the Redskins would win it? We don’t know. If the Cowboys had not lost four defensive starters, maybe they would have had a better shot. I’m anxious to see what happens next year. You have a new defensive coordinator, is that the answer? Can Rod Marinelli do his thing up front? How good is DeMarco Murray going to be if he can play a full season? Is Dez Bryant really going to jump into that class of elite receivers? I already think Tony Romo is a championship caliber quarterback. I thought he played great football for the Cowboys.”

On Tony Romo’s contract:
“I don’t know that he gets it done this year. It just depends how Tony feels about it. What is he content with? Where is his contentment? Is he going to do like (Joe) Flacco and say you know what, I’m rolling the dice? Well, there is a difference here. Joe is 28 and Tony is how old? Flacco is going to be the highest paid quarterback in the NFL when this contract gets finished and then Aaron Rodgers will leap frog him. I don’t necessarily see Tony getting into that $20-21 million a year frame. To me, it just depends on Tony’s contentment. Would he be content with $17-18 million a year? I don’t know that I would be content.”

Not content with a million+ dollars a game?

Holy moly.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

Haha yea, I thought that was an odd statement as well. Maybe he should've worded that differently.

I'd be content with getting a million dollars one time, let alone 17-18 on a yearly basis.

I can ony dream what it is like to get paid 1m per game for 16 Sundays. For and undrafted player Tony has done pretty darn well for himself.

I appreciate this article... I'll admit I've been hard on Romo we shall see in 2013 what they can do. I really hope they draft some REAL offensive linemen!
