I don't where Jason Henry is getting his information from.
This is just another reason to not read BleacherReport. They do not have credible reporters, just random people can write anything they want and post it. You and I can put what ever we want.

I know but it's stupid. Spencer isn't a pure pass rusher,my is talents would be so better utilized in the second level, stopping the run and covering TEs and the flats. Then use Crawford and company as your DEs

He would get locked up in coverage more (and get abused) and he's a better pass rusher than you give him credit for.

Spencer over the last 3 years has been great at rushing the passer.....not so much in terms of sacks........but in terms of pressures and causing backfield havoc.

Last year he finally put it all together with regards to sacks. If we can find a way to keep him, switching to the 3-4, should make it a field day for Spencer and Ware. I see Spencer being our Robert Mathis.

No way is Spencer an OLB in Kiffin's defense.

Even if the team was crazy enough to play a 260 pound guy at the OLB position, they would never, ever be crazy enough to pay what Spencer is going to get for an OLB in a 43 scheme.

43 OLB's come cheap, particularly when you are talking a SLB in a Tampa 2. It is the pass rushers on the line (DE and DT) that get most of the front 7 money.

Spencer is a pass rusher first and foremost, a stout run stopper second, and way down the list is that he is adequate in coverage.

He would be exposed in coverage as a 43 OLB though. Besides, we could pay about a tenth of what he will get for somebody who is way better in coverage.

It makes no sense to pay Spencer and then have him play out of position as a 43 OLB.

I don't get why you guys are hating on his coverage, he's made some really nice plays over the years. Not to mention he's our best run stuffer. And I know how he's got impressive pressure, knockdown etc. numbers, but when you're a complement to one of the best in the league a lot of those pressures should be easy sacks

The 3-4 puts OLB in simple coverages. In the 4-3 they would be easy to exploit.

It would be like moving a Safety to CB. Both play coverage, but the requirements are much different.
