And from 2010 to the present: Bryant, Smith, Lee, Carter, and Harris. All solid players, albeit, the injury issues regarding Lee and Carter non withstanding. I've liked the recent trends in terms of drafting from this period.

Carp was a consensus first rounder. He sucked but that's just bad luck. Lots of folks had his evaluation wrong

we liked Unger, but instead of sacrificing some of those later picks to get up and get him, we waited, he went off the board and we traded down b/c we didn't like anyone who was on the board.

That's what I'd always heard too.
I'm not sure i agreed with the trade down, but I think not getting Unger was the final trigger.
He almost fell to us, Seattle traded up ahead of us to get him.

that's another one where he was projected to go around there. he'd had a good college career for a program that develops NFL talent on the OL.
I personally think we screwed him up by trying to play him at Tackle. He sucked there, lost confidence, then when we finally moved him to Guard the next off-season he was behind and eventually cut. Who knows if it would have been different had we just started him out at Guard as all the scouting reports suggested would be his best position. At least he would have had a chance to develop in that position

Still bothers me -- we had a bunch of picks from doing the trade down dance the previous year. we should have been the ones moving up
