Sometimes drastic action is needed in order to expose corruption. If we take what he said as truth, then he obviously wasn't going to get the support he needed from those in charge.
It's not just that he was a whistle blower, its that he got fired because of it. While he acted alone, I don't think that his superiors or whoever are completely innocent here.
Yeah, murdering innocent people is a sure-fire way of pointing out police corruption. Works every time.
