Default ESPND: Cowboys look to second-tier FAs....

IRVING, Texas – On the first day of free agency last year the Cowboys flew Brandon Carr to town on Jerry Jones’ private plane and signed him to a mega deal.

So far on the first day of free agency this year the Cowboys have laid low, gauging interest on some mid-level free agents while other teams spend gratuitously.

According to sources, the Cowboys have some interest in Chicago defensive end Amobi Okoye, New York Giants linebacker Chase Blackburn and New York Jets guard Matt Slauson.

We'll settle this with a good dust up.

I'd be very happy with Slauson. Okoye is a big question mark. Don't care for Blackburn much.

I'd like to kick the tires with Okoye and Dorsey on the cheap.

With only $177,000 of salary-cap room, the Cowboys would have to cut players or restructure more contracts in order to sign any free agents. They are hoping to sign quarterback Tony Romo to a new deal, which would create cap room, but nothing appear close. A long-term deal for Anthony Spencer would also create room but there have not been talks yet.
Hmmm.

Blackburn was pretty good with the Giants but I think he'll probably be average to below-average everywhere else. He just fit in well with the Giants scheme and their defense

Going to have to build through the draft (which is fine). And nobody mention 2009 haha.

Jared Cook was signed by the Rams and John Phillips to the Chargers. Sensabaugh and Connor cut. Some contracts being reworked, but as of right now we are barely under the cap right?

Wouldn't expect much from us yet under the circumstances....

I get it why we're in this situation but very frustrating watching all this action and we're struggling just to bring much of the same team back. There are some good second tier FAs in the positions we need, I guess we're/I'm so used to being a player this time of year.

I have to imagine we're feverishly working to redo some key contracts and sending a feelers out to one, maybe two top tier FAs telling them to sit tight and we'll soon be calling?! Isn't that the JJ way?

Article seems to speculate a bit and a bunch of cowboys writers said spencer wants a deal done ASAP to help cap figure.
