You could always buck tradition and purchase a WinTV card (usually under $100) for your PC. Get an extra receiver for your dish and record the games to your HD.

Then burn the games off to DVD - using a DVD-RW (can be found for around $100). That way you'd have a collection of all the games for the season and could lend them out to your buddies.

That sounds too much like work ... the Dallas Cowboys, it's a please and an adventure, not a job

How does that work - I have Direct TV two receivers in the house already. Any guidance appreciated.

Will Tivo destroy my life? I really like TV. Especially the shows with rich, young, healthy men getting physical. Will Tivo consume the 5 hours I have remaining every day?

I think Directv is doing the deal on TiVo's still. I think they are giving like maybe 100 hours recording now for less than 300 bucks I believe?

I got one last year for 200 bucks from Directv on the deal, but just 35 hours though at that time.

Its worth every penny, just like NFL Ticket.

Hey Nors!

It's actually pretty easy.

If you already have two receivers and a PC, you've almost got everything you need.

You'll need to buy a WinTV card. You can go to www.hauppage.com (they make the WinTV products) and check out what would be best for you. I bought the WinTV-PVR with remote from BestBuy, but you can buy it at any Circuit City or CompUSA, as well.

Here's what I bought: http://www.hauppage.com/pages/products/data_250.html

If you're only going to have DirecTV hooked up to it (as opposed to Cable), then you don't really need the remote for WinTV - you'll just change the channels with the DirecTV receiver remote.

You just plug the WinTV card into an empty PCI slot, screw the coaxial cable from the DirecTV receiver into the back of the card and set up the software. It took me about 10 minutes to get mine set up. You can watch TV on your PC (keep in mind that your picture quality will only be as good as your PC monitor. But when you burn the program to DVD and watch it on your regular TV, it will look as good as any other DVD you own)

Here's a link from Circuit City:
http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...oid=-10266&m=0

You'll also need a DVD+/-RW drive. There's one here:
http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...&oid=85473&m=0

it's only $59 with rebates (I have no idea if it's any good). You only need the DVD writer if you want to burn copies to DVD. I would imagine you could also make VCDs, but I've never done that. You'll need to buy DVDs to record on (recordable or rewritable).

I can't wait for the season to start. I've copied all the episodes of HBO's Deadwood and they're flawless.

If you buy some cheap DVD editing software (which will probably be included with the DVD-RW) you can create chapters, skip over commercials, etc.

The nice thing is that the games will be recorded to your harddrive - makes editing a breeze. Another nice aspect is being able to put all your VCR tapes of past seasons onto your PC... I'm not that eatin' up with the 'Boys anymore, but it was nice to put Emmitt breaking Payton's record on my Hard drive. I've also got the draft recorded.... stopped recording after Dallas passed on Steven Jackson.

I hope this helps. If you need more info, just let me know.
