Looks like 2004 will just be a tune-up for 2005
Based on what we did this past weekend and based on the QB we went after this offseason (Henson), I think it's clear that BP and JJ are just gearing up for 2005 and beyond.
I think he fully knows this team overachieved last year and most likely will only be a wildcard, at best, again this year.
Knowing this, I fully expect to see Drew Henson play a significant amount this upcoming season. If he's going to be the man in '05 I think BP is going to want to get him some experience under his belt prior to then.
Don't be surprised to see us take a step or two back this season in order to take a huge leap forward in '05 and '06.

Well said.
I've been saying the same for quite a while now.

I think you hit the nail on the head
as good as jackson and jones are...they are not as good or as high rated as other rbs to come out in recent years. top rbs go in the top 5, top 10...not late first round.
we beat the jets without pennington, the redskins without ramsey, and won a close one against the giants because of their ****ty kicker.
I think parcells and jones know this team is not ready for a superbowl run. I think we see Henson get a lot of playing time next year...we get to see what julius jones can do and we have 2 1st round picks to address needs for the run in 2005

I hope you guys....
are wrong. I really do. I enjoyed the playoff run last year and I hope they do it again this year. If the o-line can come together so they can run a ball control offense, the offense should be able to contribute a little more.
The defense should still be really good. They don't need a great offense, if they can get the same level of play from the defense.

Our new Oline and D should keep us good. But i have a feeling that we really are gearing up for next year. Either way, i expect us to be respectable and if we win this year that's just adding icing to the cake. But don't rule us out this year so much, we still got our D.
"Some people create with words, or with music, or with a brush and paints. I like to make something beautiful when I run. I like to make people stop and say, "I've never seen anyone run like that before." It's more then just a race, it's a style. It's doing something better then anyone else. It's being creative." -Steve Prefontaine

I think 2004 season is going to depend on how much progress the young players make in their 2nd or 3rd year in the league. I think the expericance these guys recieved last year by being in the playoff hunt and then making the playoffs will only help as they get ready for this upcoming season.

I respectively disagree. We have an easier schedule and better personel this year. This could be a surprsie year for a lot of naysayers (Both Boys fans and not). I think we'll see Henson early this year, based on his high Wonderlic score. We have shored up the O-line and added a better RB. Plus this will be the 2nd year in the same offensive scheme...Something we haven't had in years. I think the offense will be improved from last year.
As to the defense, number 1 (last year) ranked defense lost Ek and Edwards. Picked up Wilely and it looks like Hunter will replace Edwards. Blade and Stewart will have extra experince too. Just the addition of a better running game on O will help out the "D" too.
Last but not least, BP has never had a worse 2nd year than the 1st year.
Be excellent to each other....

I don't think it's really Parcell's style to concede anything. Sure we may take a step back this year and finish 8-8 or so, but I seriously doubt Parcells is thinking "Gee, we're going to be horrible thiis year"... That's just not his MO.
