Default Draft Value Charts flawed?

I was just thinking about it and shaking my head how all the teams follow this thing like it's the bible. It basically prevents teams from trading into the top 5 because it costs you all of your draft picks plus next years picks too. From 10 to 5 costs 400 points, basically a 2nd round pick. Ok fine. From 5 to 4 will only cost a 4th Then the jumps get huge. 400 points for every move you are going up. 4 to 2 is 800 points That's your 2nd and 3rd, or your next years 1st. It just doesn't add up to me and really hampers teams that are trying to get out of their position. Maybe it should be updated every year depending on what the top players look like. I don't know the solution, but for it to stay the same for 15+ years is kind of silly. JMO.

That's the idea. If you had a top 5 pick and had a chance to draft a player like Reggie Bush, Matt Leinart, or D'Brickashaw Ferguson, how willing would YOU be to trade down to 15 or 20?

It doesn't. In fact, most teams will have their own version of "the chart" that their own guys have calculated based on the risk-reward level of each pick. It's just that these aren't floating around the internet like the one you see folks quoting around here. The thing is, though, that it STILL costs you your whole draft and then some to trade into the top 5. That's just how valuable those picks actually are.

Nobody follows this bible except for the fans. Every team has their own draft value chart and if a trade makes sense then they will pull the trigger.

The reason I point it out is because of the trades that have happend to this point all pretty much equalling the chart.

It's only a tool. Teams can adjust it anytime they like or discard it completely.
