Default D-line play...

Reviewing the first half again on TIVO our D-line was not as horrible as I originally thought...run D can still use some work...Glover himself seems a bit concerned, but as far as pass rush went...we put a lot of pressure on Gannon. We did not have a sack, which is frustrating, but we had him in our hands several times and flushed him out of the pocket many times. One thing about Gannon is that he typically gets rid of the ball quickly...so the fact we pushed him out of pocket as much as we did was somewhat encouraging.

Wiley played decent...need more pressure from him still.
Glover did pretty well overall.
Carson and Stewart still and concern to me.
Ellis and Ogbogu (sp) had a few times they were chasing him in the backfield.
Bradie James was back there a few time as well.

We still need a lot of work...giving up to many yards per carry right now, but I'm seeing signs of pressure.

Thoughts?

I saw them last year versus Pats. We have a fast front, they create pressure but not sacks. I fear a Gibbs type team can run it down our throats.

Default I think

I think that size is the important factor-
In that game if you saw Ted Washington (the aircraft carrier wearing silver and black) on running downs he would engage the Oline then fall down in whichever direction the rb was running to. This was effective for the most part by mucking up th emiddle of the line.

I think this is the other extreme- you need a big body to muck things up but I think you still need agility if you are going to completely disrupt the play

Nobody can run it down our throats if we don't let them. Remember, we only let Pittman, Buckhalter, and Williams run for 100 on us last year, and Williams were low YPC, he just carried it 32 times or something. Anyway, as long as the line gets their assignments right, our backers will hook us up, and a gibbs type team needs Roy Williams playing the run to help too, as long as Newman can handle Coles single handedly, but i'm not overly worried about that.

I wonder if some of the younger guys are concentrating to much on getting to the QB.

Based on everything I have read on the subject....our scheme requires that the D-Line play run first and pass second. It also requires that the Nosegaurd occupy space and tie up two Offensive lineman in the middle.

Glover said in the interview that this is a very physically and mentally demanding position because you are having to take on 2 guys constantly. And it is imperative that you tie up the lineman on running plays so that they do not get pads on the LB's.

Default Ted Washington is very underrated....

He wouldve fit perfect here...Yeh he's old but man does he plug up a hole....Blade sorta filled that role last year but nobody has stepped up and taken it over yet....But News Break we just signed Eaton so maybe he will stay healthy and we can use Carson Stewart and Glover to our advantage.......Remember the good ole days when we had a rotation going....Yeh
Baby....lol

not with the OL they have...Minnesota's line worries me some, Green Bay has a solid OL, so does Baltimore...Seattle has a decent OL...honestly the rest of the OL's we face dont scare me much, especially the 3 teams in our division

I am VERY concerned about our D-line play, and BP is too hence the Eaton signing. If you can't stop the run, you're done. Teams run it down your throat and wear your defense down, dominate time of possession and keep your offense on the sidelines. It's a surefire formula for disaster.

Hopefully Leo Carson can shake the rust off and start playing like BP thinks he can. I'd just about bet the house that we get a DT with one of those first round picks next year.

I'm also beginning to wonder if Leo Carson's knee may be more of a concern to Parcells than he's been wanting or willing to admit.

A smart DC like Filthy's Jim Johnson knows how to help the Dline by playing the LBers close enough to cause confusion to the Oline...

You need to change up the fronts often...

A "occupy & enage" system is great...For the offense, as it allows them to get their hands on the Dlineman...Making it very hard to get a rush on...

The Carson injury situation is tough...Will he be the player Parcells thinks he will be or be less then 100% all year?

I like the Eaton signing better then the EG signing...

I think vs the we will mix up our looks more...
