Colt Brennan
Yeah, I'm a little biased and hope he does well, but here is the latest on his combine.
Brennan credited with 100 percent accuracy in today's drills
INDIANAPOLIS — In an astonishing display of accuracy, Colt Brennan was credited with completing 100 percent of his passes during drills today at the NFL Scouting Combine in the RCA Dome.
Of his 21 passes, 20 were caught. A chest-high pass was dropped, but it was so accurate Brennan was credited with a completion.
"This is one big hurdle I cleared," said Brennan, who endured criticism because of his weight and perceived lack of arm strength.
But Brennan reported to the combine weighing 207 pounds, and today he showed his arm strength (two of the completions were for 45 yards) in disciplines ranging from 5-yard outs to streak patterns.
Brennan worked out with a group that included UH teammates Davone Bess and Ryan Grice-Mullins.
One of the drills was a route in which the receiver ran 5 yards straight, then cut to the left. Brennan and Bess were randomly paired for that play, which was the Warriors' money short-yardage play the past two seasons. Brennan easily completed the pass to Bess.
Brennan drew applause from the players and coordinators when he completed a 45-yard pass to DeSean Jackson. It was a difficult throw in which Jackson ran straight 10 yards, cut 5 yards to the left, then sprinted to the right.
The report on his drills showed 19 of Brennan's passes were perfect. Two were slightly off the mark, but were caught, anyway.
"I was really happy," Brennan said. "There are so many misconceptions, so many untruths out there, about what I am as a quarterback and what I can do. It's mostly those Internet sites. Their perception is heard, and it's like 'telephone.' People around the country hear these things and assume them."
Only players and drill coordinators were allowed on the field. Scouts were in the stands. Reporters from 25 news agencies, including The Honolulu Advertiser, were allowed to watch from the luxury suites.

he did good in that respect but he seems to have a below average arm, in terms of strength, to me and I didn't feel like he got his passes out of his hand, and out to the spot he was suppose to be throwing to, nearly well enough.

It's not that he can't throw the ball. They say the kid just can't read defenses and that his mechanics are terrible. The June Jones system he came from, he threw from the shotgun like 95% of the time.
You can't go 5 wide all the time in NFL. Sometime you have to step up under center. When you do -it's an entirely different ballgame then.
The bowl game killed Brennon. Well - Georgia killed him.
Still - I think he'd be a good day 2 pick for someone looking to groom the kid to be a backup. I don't ever see him being a true legit starter.
I've got a prayer on my desk. It says, "Dear Lord, I pray that my place will never be with the cold, timid souls who do not compete yet criticize, for they never know or feel success or failure."

if you're not getting the ball out of your hand to where it's supposed to be, wouldn't you NOT hit 20 of 21 passes and the other still in the chest?
that's just a huge contradiction to me.

Arm strength- One of the most over rated aspects of a NFL qb.
Accuracy- One of the most important aspects of an NFL qb.

I stand corrected.
He has a accurate noodle arm.
He will throw the deep In/Out right at the CB.

No. There is no defense out there in those drills. He was getting them into the area, but some behind and not out in front of them where he was suppose to be.
His throws were not leaving his hand the moment he made his 3-5 step drop and then out. Plus, as you watch his throws on those outs, his arm is not very impressive. I could see a lot of his out patterns being very easily jumped and picked off for TDs the other way. He doesn't have a strong arm, at all.

A lot of that sounds like the knock on a Cowboy QB coming out of college.

I'm not interested in how accurate he is throwing to a reciever against air. I need to see how accurate he is when he's got to drop an out route in there against a defense.
His arm is going to be way too weak to push those out routes enough and you're going to see a lot of his passes jumped because of it.
he's got an arm equal to, if he's lucky, that of Chad Penningtons and he has a very weak, NFL arm.
You don't have to have a cannon, like Favre, but you better have some sort of arm strength which Brennan completely lacks.

Hey dude, awesome. If you want to put a franchise on the back of a kid cause he can throw 100% of his passes to guys against air, by all means, that's your deal.
Being able to hit every pass to a reciever with no one else on the field means very little to me cause there is ZERO shot of him ever getting such a situation in the NFL.

So did Joe Flacco, who played in a shotgun/spread offense at Delaware.
But that doesn't stop him from being touted as the next big thing. It is about the allure of the arm, which he has and Brennan lacks.
Brennan is also getting the royal backlash from a very bad bowl game when an overmatched Hawaii team was dismantled by a very solid Georgia team.
He's not for every club. But put him in a short area timing-based offense where his arm strength isn't going to be a big factor, he can be a winner.

hey - dude - put the stupid pills down. DID I SAY I WANTED TO DO THAT?
no. you just dismiss his accomplishment and i simply ask how many other qb's hit 100%, since it was apparantely so easy.
did this guy steal your mother? girlfriend? kick your dog? it just seems personal to you.
so don't answer the question of how many others did something that to you is so easy and i'll just realize you've got a personal anti-colt-boner and move on.

Who said put the franchise on him? I'm talking 3rd and above. Let him sit for a couple of years and see what happens. You CANNOT teach a qb to be accurate! He can get strong enough.
