New York Giants 2008 Draft
• Pick No. 31: New York Giants select Kenny Phillips, S, Miami (Fla.)
Pro analysis: The Super Bowl champions offset the free-agent defection of Gibril Wilson by taking Phillips, perhaps the next great safety out of Miami. It's probably unfair to compare Phillips to legends such as Sean Taylor and Ed Reed, but he could immediately start in New York next to graybeard Sammy Knight.
College analysis: Before he even played a down at Miami, big things were expected of Kenny Phillips. The All-USA TODAY defensive player of the year as a high school senior, Phillips delivered on the high expectations. He started for three seasons and finished his career as an All-American. He has excellent size and speed for a safety, which allows him to be dependable against the run and pass.
