I read Goose saying his first mock is about pure talent. His second mock adds in need. His last mock (day before/morning of the draft) factors in everything, his last-minute talks with teams and all rumors.

The Detroit Lions have the worst defense in the NFL – one of the worst defenses ever, in fact.

The Lions gave up 517 points last season, second most in NFL history. Only the 1981 Baltimore Colts allowed more (533). Detroit has given up more points than it has scored in each of its last 17 games.

They say defense wins championships. It also wins games. When the Lions start playing competitively on defense, they can start winning games again.
Hiring Jim Schwartz as their new head coach in 2009 was a start. He coordinated defenses at Tennessee the last two seasons that ranked in the NFL's top seven. But the Lions need more than a new scheme. They need new players.

The Lions ranked last in the NFL in both defense and run defense in 2009. Linebacker Aaron Curry of Wake Forest is the best defensive player on the draft board. He can plug in at middle linebacker for the Lions between Julian Peterson and Ernie Sims.

So give Curry to the Lions in the second mock draft offering from The Dallas Morning News. The first one last Sunday was based on best available player. This one places a greater emphasis on team need. Here's the mock:

Slate, I've got to tell you, I'm warming up to the idea of Chung.

Quite a few rankings have Chung and Delmas rated evenly by the way, including NFLDS and Ourlands.

I think both guys interest the Cowboys and both can be good players.

As for Chung, he can also be a major help in STs coverage and returning punts and kickoffs.

I'm not going to be disappointed in Chung at all in Round 2.

Donald Brown to the Cardinals is the only pick that was the same in his first mock.

Most of the positions have the same players in the same order. At first glance, the only differences I see are Cushing moving ahead of Matthews at OLB and Brown moving ahead of McCoy at RB.

Chung would make a lot of sense for us there if Delmas and Robiskie are both gone. I believe that those are the two players we are really targeting with the 51st pick. I imagine that, if we took Chung that we would then try to make a play for Derrick Williams or we would sit tight at the top of the 3rd and hope that Iglesias falls to us. If Chung is also gone in the 2nd then someone like English, Barwin or Sidbury has probably fallen to us and in that case I think we'd take them, Williams or Iglesias and then target Darcell McBath later on.

That's how things seem to be shaping up, in my opinion.

I think if Delmas and Robiskie are gone than we move back and take Rashad Johnson.

I'd bet that we have Johnson and McBath rated pretty similarly and thus I'd be surprised to see us take Johnson in the 2nd, even after trading down.

I thought that Felix Jones would suck though, so take my opinion with a grain of a grain of salt.
