In my case, it depends on the writer. Vladimir Nabokov wielded language in a way that no writer has before or since. His sentences are often very complex and ornate. Reading them is like taking a walk through a park on a Spring Day. Energetic, colorful, a true aesthetic experience.
Someone like Henry James, on the other hand, can be quite cumbersome. Obviously, James was a greater writer, but I'm convinced he loved to read himself.

Outliers - 8/10
Book about some of the most successful people in the world, and what factors contributed to their success. The author cherry picked some of his examples, but it was definitely an interesting read.

Neuromancer by William Gibson
A cyberspace thriller/cyberpunk fiction published in 1984 (yes, yet another 'old' book that I am just now getting around to reading). Fantastic book, one of the best Sci-Fi novels I've read. The movie 'The Matrix' got a lot of their ideas from this book no doubt, the similarities of characters, plot, etc... is just too much.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Sci-Fi and especially cyberpunk/cyberspace thriller.
I read that director Vincenzo Natali is going to take a crack at making a movie based on this book. In fact the film has already went into pre-production in May 2011.
EDIT: The is the first book to have won all three of the most prestigious sci-fi awards, the Nebula, the Philip K. Dick and the Hugo awards.

A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin
Though it isn't the best book of the series, it was a page turner and just about all of the POV stories are interesting.
I'm 32 now and I hope I am not 40 when the next book comes out .

Finshed Clash of Kings not long ago. Although before moving on to the next book in the series, I've decided to switch gears. Now I'm reading The Elegant Universe by Brian Greene.

A Storm of Swords.
Finished it around midnight last night. Wow, easily the best book of the series to date. I was going to take a week's break before picking up the next book, but the Epilogue put an end to that nonsense.
I read the first seventy pages of A Feast for Crows instead of going to bed.

I finished ASOS (Definite 10/10) on Saturday and started AFFC Sunday. I've been dreading it because I know AFFC is by far my least favorite of the series, and the first 60 pages reminds me exactly why it's the book I remember the least about. All the Dornish stuff and Iron Islands stuff is not really my cup of tea, especially when we have to go through all the introductory stuff with those sections. It just kills the momentum from ASOS. It doesn't help that most of the really good characters that I like are completely (or very nearly so) missing from this book.
I know it's not a bad book, but I just want to get to ADWD already, and I want to continue with the major story elements (or characters) that were going on at the end of ASOS. I also know I need to refresh myself before I do.

Pretty good, fun and quick read. A well written crime novel.

American Gods - 8/10
The pacing is a little off from time and time and I ultimate found the end of the book unsatisfying, but the journey is worth it.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

A Storm of Swords was killer. It was a book in the series that seemed like so many chapters were good. You would have a few chapters that when you got to them you wished you could skip to a different ones (like the Davos ones).
However so far A feast for crows is just the opposite. It seems like so far (between the first 300-400 pages) I have been wanting to skip through most chapters to get to some of the other characters chapters that were so good in the last book. Even some characters that were boring.
This one is just really boring me with the iron island characters and the dornish characters.
Hope it gets better.
I am sure the iron isle and dornish characters will play a much bigger role in the next books in the series but so far they have been boring chapters to read.

A guy I work with read all the books and well, he said all the books after Storm of Swords are pretty boring. He said all the do is meander around doing nothing. I'm kind of worried about reading them. I will read Storm of Swords once I finish my current book, but I can't say I'm hyped about reading beyond that. Two more books of a 1,000+ pages of boring isn't something I want to do.
I will read a lot more reviews before I go beyond SoS.
