Default Wow - what a choke job

Wannstedt and Turner have to be two of the worst managing a game in the 4th quarter. We put up 21 in the 4th and the bomb to Ismail in OT

But boy did our secondary get toasted in that game.

I was disappointed they didn't show Danny Boys shocked look after the game. That was priceless.

Maybe it is just selective memory....or maybe it was just me....but I remember the camera panning up to him during that game (when the actual game was being played) and it looked like he was going to explode...even the people around him were looking at him like they were scared he was going to freak out.

A few things:

-I forgot how impressive that comeback was.

-I wish there was an extremeskins back then. It would have been fun to peak in on that board during and after the comeback.

-Lets stop the Julius Jones talk about being the next Emmitt. I like Julius, but even seeing Emmitt in the late 90's you saw how good he was.

-it is too bad our front office took a siesta during the middle to late 90's. The Big three still looked very capable. It is too bad we could only get a few young players who could contribute to that team to go with the veterans. We had Mathis and Charlie Williams starting at corner. Darrin Hambrick at LB, Alonzo Spellman, Wayne Garity at wr....the list goes on. If we could have hit on a few draft picks and made a couple solid low price free agent signings thatn that team could have been much better.

It was a mistake to fire Gailey and install Campo.

It was a mistake to fire Jimmy and hire Switzer, Gailey, and Campo. If Jerry has learned anything let's hope it is that Coaching matters. When Parcells hangs 'em up I am hoping Nick Saban will take his place. But I hope that is way down the road.

That would be an excellent choice.

The thing I had forgotton about, but was reminded of by this replay, was that Gailey had significantly reduced Michael's playing time. It made me angry at the time and still befuddles me that he would have #88 on the bench.

Regarding the firing of Jimmy Johnson, I remember that Jones actually wanted Jimmy to sign a contract extension/long term contract but Johnson refused. Does anyone else remember this or am I imagining it?

I watched last night. I never saw the end of the game because the cut away to show the stupid Lions game. I had never been so pissed. My brother from California had to give me play by play over the phone. This was before I owned direct tv and this will never happen again. So now I got to see the ending. What a game.

Did you see how hard Aikman threw the ball? He looked like he was barely trying and the ball came out like a rocket. It was also interesting to see him in a passing style offense with all of those receivers.

Emmitt looked really, really fast too. That really could have been a Super Bowl team with a couple of better players and without the loss of #88.

Default Things I liked about the game

-Larry Allen was a monster. He was abusing every D-lineman that lined up against him

-The Redskins were a very talented team. They were just undisciplined and were celebrating the victory at the end of the 3rd QTR.

-I think Rocket Ismail became soft over night because he was finishing runs and was scrappy. I guess that Signing Bonus made him play at a higher level. Ismail didn't play with the same intensity after 1999.

- Flozell played on physical potential alone. He was raw. I think he'll even get better in 2004.

- Irvin was the heart and soul of the team. The replay didn't show many of the sideline shots that were in the regular TV broadcast on FOX. Irvin was pissed the entire game. Gailey limited his playing time.

I was at the game and I also recorded the TV broadcast. The Redskin players were sucking wind and crapping up mid-way through the 3rd QTR. The starters were calling for substitution every other play. It was great feeling after Irvin caught the tying TD pass. It was even more exciting than the OT TD by Ismail. Atleast that the way most Cowboy fans in the stands in our section thought. We were all drenched in beer by Skin fans who blew their wad late in the 3rd QTR. They were already chanting SuperBowl yada yada. It was a great feeling watching Irvin smother Green on the tying TD pass. He shield the Green so well that he almost think that there wasn't any DB behind Irvin.

great game. Makes you wonder what could have been if Irvin didn't go down.

I don't remember that, but I do remember Jerry going to Battle Stations after Jimmy said during an interview that taking the job at Jacksonville and starting up that franchise would be "intriguing".... and whatever was left of that relationship went downhill after that... it is a miracle that they stayed together to win the Super Bowl again that year.
