Blog MySA: Romo to play behind patchwork OL/Roy "I've had a good camp"

Patchwork offensive line won't prevent Tony Romo from playing Saturday, Phillips says

OXNARD, Calif. - Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said quarterback Tony Romo will play Saturday against San Diego even though the team will be without two starting offensive lineman.

"I feel good about the group we have and I think they will do the job," Phillips said of the club's now patchwork offensive line.

Phillips said the injury left guard Kyle Kosier suffered Wednesday morning is similar to what happened to defensive end Marcus Spears late in camp in San Antonio.

Roy Williams: 'I've been having a good camp'
By Tom Orsborn on Aug 18, 10 04:11 PM | Permalink | Comments (0)

OXNARD, Calif. - Much-maligned wide receiver Roy Williams is actually having a pretty good camp since the Cowboys arrived on the West Coast. And he suggested he's put it together under intense scrutiny.

"Every day is an evaluation of me," Williams said. "When he throws me the ball, it's 'Is he going to catch it? Is he going to run the right route? Is he going to get it to him?' I've been having a good camp. Nobody has said anything bad about me. I've been flying under the radar, and that's how I like it. Me and the quarterback are good."

As a fan I hope he is right this time, it appears from some of the reports his route running and technique has gotten better.

This will be good for the team in the long run.

We need to see what some of these young guys can do against other team's starters. Some guys are gamers and you'll never know what they are capable of when the lights come on until given that chance.

I look at it this way. If one of these young OLinemen steps up and surprises in the team's hour of need then you've learned something valuable about him while bolstering team depth at the same time.

I read that Barron might actually be mended enough to play. It would be a great time to get him some full time reps at RT with the first team to see if he can be counted on.

At this point I don't expect Roy to be a great WR and put up huge numbers. With Miles and Dez, I want Roy to earn his paycheck and stop with the drops. If he contributes and put up respectable numbers sharing the load, I'll be more than happy.

Record: 2-3 as of 10/15/2012 | Prediction: 7-9 | Final: 8-8 with a Romo choke

If Roy becomes a SOLID #3 then I will be happy at this point. I am way past hoping he will be a super star for us. Now I'm just hoping that he can contribute at key times of the game.

I don't see RW as a number three. He's not made to play the slot. He's an outside WR. If you count him as the third best WR on the team then I understand your argument.

My point is unless he's playing outside then he's not going to be in the top three. I guess this is why they have Austin line up in the slot when RW and Dez are on the field with him. Now that works.
Did you know there are only 5000 Snow Leopards in the wild now and they are confined to Central Asia? However, the effective global population (those likely to reproduce) is less than half that number.

A #3 doesn't necessarily denote slot receiver.

Wes Welker is a number 2 (although some would incorrectly hail him as a #1) and he plays the slot.
In the final two months of 2011, Romo’s passer rating was 115.9.
