Default FT Worth Star : 5 in the danger zone

http://www.star-telegram.com/2010/08...in-danger.html

By Clarence E. Hill Jr.
5 in the danger zone

WR Sam Hurd
Hurd's case is cut and dried. His $1.8 million salary is too much to pay a guy to primarily cover kicks. He could be released and re-signed to a lesser contract, but he will likely opt to go elsewhere. The Cowboys have given a clue to their feelings on the subject by giving receiver Jesse Holley a look at Hurd's roles on special teams.

5 on the rise

CB Bryan McCann
The speedster from SMU has really turned heads with his play in practice and games. He has gotten better over the course of training camp. He has intercepted Tony Romo in practice and knocked balls away from the likes of Miles Austin and Roy Williams. The Cowboys wish he was a little bigger, but he can no longer be overlooked.

The only one I disagree with is Hamlin. He's shown enough last year and in other team functions to keep his job. I wouldn't be surprised to see him IRed though.

I can't believe we spent a 4th on McGee. The last of the Parcells/Ireland projects are leaving the roster.

Dez Bryant, Receiver. A man who's season is over. Gentlemen, the Cowboy's staff can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first super human receiver.
Dez Bryant will be that man. Better than he was before. Better.... Stronger..... Faster......

If i am not mistaken Mcgee was not a Ireland Parcells pick unless you are talking about Mcquisten and Watkins

Mike Hamlin? I don't see him mentioned - did I miss something?

I don't understand why 1.8 million is too much to pay Hurd.

I dont either. Its an uncapped year and I imagine the team could spend $18 million more and their balance sheet would still look spiffy.

1.8 million is a HUGE number for a guy who isn't going to see the field except covering kicks. Salary cap or not, it's still Jerry's money. No salary cap for one season is not a reason to be fiscally irresponsible.

Hurd: Right now, is O-Tree better than Hurd? I don’t know about that. Did anyone see Joe DeCamillis light into him a new *** hole? I wouldn’t pencil in him in just yet. He has regressed massively. He should be lighting up the 3rd and 4th stringers and that has not happened. Not even close.

Gronkowski: Not sure what everyone sees in him, looks like a JAG to me. Rather keep Dion.

Pat McQuistan: what a massive waste of time. He is fugly on and off the field.

McGee: A poors man sober Quincy Carter.

Danny McCray: What a freakin game he had. I am on the bandwagon. The next special teams ace.

Sorry, by Parcells projects I meant Hurd, McQuistan and possibly Watkins.
