Default Tango McCauley 5-yr contract?

I just read in Archer's article we signed this guy to a 5-year deal?

Anyone know the terms. This is from left field, I don't remember seeing anything about this. How many OL can we keep on the roster and how much a signing bonus did we give this guy to tie him up for 5 years?

The team has also signed CFL refugee Tango McCauley to a five-year contract in hopes he can become a contributing player.

It was in the "Time for Allen to Get Tough" thread

I reported the details on Jan. 8 at the old site --

Tango McCauley, the guard from the CFL, signed a five-year deal with a $100,000 signing bonus and minimum salaries. The last two years of the contract are voidable.

Found this from a 2002 draft site.

TANGO McCAULEY

Offensive Guard/Tackle

Alabama State University Hornets

6:03.3-304

Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Former defensive lineman who was a two-year starter at Texas A&M before transferring to Alabama State for his senior year… Uses his great upper body strength to dominate as a pass protector…Collegiate tackle whose trap blocking ability could see him shift to guard at the pro level…Shows very quick movement skills…Hits aggressively on contact, staying low in his stance with a quick arm rise to rock the defenders back…Does a fine job of getting position on the defender, using his hands effectively to turn and wall off…Simply mauls people with his straight-ahead blast in run blocking…Fluid in his retreat and kick-step, reaching and extending his arms properly to sustain and finish his blocks.

2001 SEASON

All-American first-team selection by The National Sports Bureau…All-Southwestern Athletic Conference first-team choice…Manned the strong side offensive tackle position, registering an impressive 120 knockdowns while grading 84.5% for an offense that averaged 474.8 yards per game.

Alabama A&M…Cut blocked linebacker Cadarric Collins on QB Darnell Kennedy’s 15-yard touchdown toss to Chris Coleman and later opened a hole used by Kennedy for a 1-yard scoring run as the Hornets totaled 543 yards.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff…Leveled defensive end Lorenzo Akins to spring Kennedy for a 5-yard touchdown run as the team gained 426 yards.

Mississippi Valley…Posted 18 knockdowns, clearing a path used by tailback Larry Bias for a 3-yard touchdown run and then upended defensive end Rufus Williams to give Kennedy time to find Coleman with a 12-yard scoring strike as the team amassed 604 yards.

Alcorn State…Blocked defensive end Marcus Evans to the ground on Cortez Mitchell’s 1-yard touchdown run as the ground game piled up 173 yards.

Clark-Atlanta…Made 16 knockdowns, including one on linebacker Reggie King on Kennedy’s 66-yard touchdown pass to Eugene Johnson as the Hornets picked up 531 yards.

Grambling State (SWAC Championship)…Took down linebacker Robert Taylor with a roll block on Kennedy’s 62-yard touchdown toss to Floyd Tigers as ASU totaled 400 yards.

2000 SEASON

Started every game at the demanding left offensive tackle for the Texas A&M Aggies…Was the cornerstone of an offensive line that allowed only 10 quarterback sacks as the team averaged 381.6 yards per game and scored 307 points…Graded 82.1% for blocking consistency and posted 84 knockdowns.

Texas-El Paso...Made seven knockdowns in the first half, clearing a path for tailback Joe Weber’s 16-yard score and also contained rush end Rick Fette to give QB Mark Farris time to lob a 6-yard touchdown pass to flanker Robert Ferguson as the offense gained 414 yards.

Baylor...Added eight knockdowns and graded 88% as he teamed with fullback Ja’Mar Toombs to lead the way on a 15-yard reverse for a touchdown by split end Bethel Johnson and also returned the favor to Toombs by opening a hole used by the Aggie fullback for a 1-yard scoring plunge as A&M collected 414 yards.

Iowa State...Again teamed with Toombs, this time to take down defensive end Reggie Hayward on Farris’ 5-yard scoring run, finishing the day with eight knockdowns to help the offense pick up 469 yards.

Kansas State...Graded a career-high 93% as he delivered seven knockdowns during his heated battle with Mario Fatefehi, taking down the massive defensive tackle with a cut block on a 2-yard touchdown run by Toombs and later leveled defensive end Monty Beisel as Toombs raced around the left side for an 8-yard touchdown run to cap a day where the Aggies’ ground game accounted for 171 yards in a 26-10 victory.

1999 SEASON

Appeared in eight games, starting the Baylor, Kansas and Oklahoma contests at left tackle for Texas A&M…Made 28 knockdowns and graded 78% for blocking consistency as the team gained 415 yards.

Baylor...Blocked linebacker Rod Smith to the ground to clear a path used by Joe Weber for a 7-yard touchdown run as the Aggies gained 417 yards.

1998 SEASON

Saw action as a backup offensive tackle after switching from defense to offense during fall drills.

Found this on another website:

Troubled past: The Cowboys took a character risk in signing Tango McCauley, a Canadian League guard. Former Texas A&M coach R.C. Slocum dismissed McCauley from the team before the 2001 season because of a violation of team rules. In 2000, McCauley served a two-game suspension after being arrested for public intoxication while celebrating his 21st birthday.
