He runs about a 4.5 or upper 4.4's on the field. Jerry rice in his prime ran a 4.6 which is what clarett ran last year. The good news about clarett is that his game speed is the same as his straightline speed.
Difference is he has not run with a football in 2 years and all anyone has to go by now is what he did at the combines. Fact is by all accounts the scouts were not impressed by him at all and frankly they don't care what he did his freshman year in college. The Combines were critical for both Clarett and Williams and while Williams went out and showed himself as a top option for teams looking at WR Clarett did nothing to help himself and chances are hurt himself by quitting the rest of the combines, hell he may as well have stayed home.

I don't know if 5th round would do, he is currently a project. But in the later rounds, taking a flyer at him would be a good risk/reward senario. He either works out or not. A lot of late round picks do not make the team. I believe someone will pull the trigger on him, but what round?

Our last few 5th rounders got us: Sean Ryan, Pete Hunter, Matt Lehr, and Michael Wiley. (Kenyon Coleman was a 5th rounder for Oakland) That is a marginal bunch at best.

A quick glance at the last 3-4 years drafts don't turn up many stars in the 5th round...

I am gussing some team will take him in the 3rd or 4th round. But if he is there in the 5th, I would have to give it a lot of consideration. He should at least be able to beat out Bickerstaff for a roster spot. After all, he did have some amazing games in college... and as I read on another site (can't remember where), Rudi Johnson and Priest Holmes couldn't break 4.7 at their combine, either.

The Holmes thing is a bit miss leading. I believe he was injured during his combine.

Nope. Priest Holmes tore his ACL going into his senior season. He was then granted a 5th year of eligibility, but by then Ricky Williams had moved into the starting lineup for Texas. Priest carried the ball only 59 times his last season at Texas. He then ran a 4.75 at the NFL combine and went undrafted.

Yes.

But not in 5th.

I'll take a flyer on him in the 6th.
