How abouty trading for Julian Peterson?
I know there is a risk here with his injury from last year, but if it has healed, then giving up the 11th pick should be enough for the 49ers and it would solve our need for a pass rusher (we also need an upgrade at DE) with an All Pro player who is as good as anyone in the draft and would assure our conversion to a 3-4 defense.

Achilles injury makes him extreamly risky. I think he is a very good ball player but an injury like that would scare me off.

too big a risk with that injury, I wouldn't give the 11th pick anyway. That's for my taste anyway.

You could probably draft Davis, out of Georgia, with #20 and have pretty much the same player.
If we made a trade for Peterson, I would not give up a high pick. Nobody comes back from Achilies ruptures.
Not a good idea in my book.

I doubt anyone would give up a #11 for a player comming off of an achilles tear. IMO doctors just can't repair those types of injuries yet for any athlete to come back at 100%. Remember about 5-10 years ago, ACL injuries were often considered career threatning injuries. Now athletes can begin running again after 6-12 months! Thats amazing. I'm sure one day repairing an achilles will be as easy as repairing an ACL...but its just going to take some time. I would stay far away from anyone who's comming off a torn achilles.

If he was healthy, maybe. But he ain't healthy. He had about the worst kind of injury possible and players do not come back to the player they were before it.

I'm not in favor of trading any picks this year. Let's cultivate our own stars rather than relying on other teams to do so.

peterson's speed was his best asset. trading a 1st for him looks terribly dicey. the memory of kevin smith hasn't faded for me yet.

not just no but hell no...achilles injuries are major bad news and major risks...Peterson might never be the same player again, no way I'd trade either of our 1st rd picks for him

The mark of just about any top-shelf franchise. It's certainly the way to go - if you're competent enough to properly identify talent and develop accordingly.
Couldn't agree with you more.
