Default Ferguson and Rookie in, Glover Out?

Now that the Cowboys have signed Ferguson, he will be the NT in the 3-4, Greg Ellis will be a DE, I just have one question. If we draft a DE in the draft then they would start at the other DE position oppisite Ellis so the D-line looks like this: DE-Greg Ellis DT-Jason Ferguson DE-rookie, so my guestion is what will we do with La'roi Glover? I'm for trading him for a high-value player if we're not going to use him.Thoughts?

Ferguson played in the 4-3 with the Jets.

His signing doesn't necessarily mean we are going to the 3-4 full time.

We still DO NOT have the players to go fully to the 3-4. Ferguson has been playing, and THRIVING, in the 4-3.

Glover will be playing DT in the 4-3 this year in a Cowboys uniform.

I agree, we will still play a lot 4-3 this year.
To get to 3-4, we would need at least 2 new starting LBs and maybe 3.
We can't make the move in one year.

Gimme a DE with Ferguson, Glover and Ellis, and that's a strong improvment from last year.

We still need Oline, backup RB, RCB, FS, DE, OLB...
I really don't see us getting to 3-4 this year.

If Bill really wants to win now, the switch to 3-4 will be gradual. We dont have the personel to run 3-4 full time, and once we do get the personel it will probably take a full off-season to implement it.

I am thinking it will be like last year, mainly 4-3 with 3-4 looks on situatioinal downs. They will probably throw it out there more often than last year as they integrate it, but I doubt the base D goes to 3-4, at least this year, IMO

Good points... I see a base 4-3 with multiple 3-4 looks up front.. the Jets used some 3-4 looks.. and the Ravens weren't an every down 3-4 team last year.. look for us to mix it up

He won't go anywhere. BP has remarked several times about how he hardly worries about Glover because he's so good at what he does.

Default Its happening!

3-4 , Now the NT excuse is gone!

Go Parcells! ILB, and 3-4 DE.

Jets' nose tackle Ferguson going to Cowboys
Wednesday, March 02, 2005
BY DAVE HUTCHINSON
Star-Ledger Staff
When the clock struck midnight, Jets unrestricted free agent nose tackle Jason Ferguson turned into a Cowboy.

Ferguson, who anchored the Jets run defense last season, rebuffed the Jets' offer and will sign with the Cowboys and former Jets coach Bill Parcells, someone with knowledge of the situation said early this morning.

Terms of the contract were unavailable.

The move left the Jets, who felt they were close to a deal with Ferguson, scrambling to find a replacement. They're eyeing Bills free agent defensive tackle Pat Williams, trying to get him to fly to New York today. Williams is believed to have several bidders, including one from the Vikings.

Ferguson, 30, will be reunited with Parcells, who drafted him in the seventh round out of Georgia in 1997. He played three seasons under Parcells and one season with while while Parcells was in the Jets' front office.

The nine--year pro is coming off a career season in which he had 59 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks. He was coveted because of his ability to play in a 3-4 alignment, a scheme the Cowboys will employ this season.__________________

Question, why is everyone so hot to get rid of Glover? Right now he's our best player on the defensive line. You don't get rid of somebody like that unless you can for sure replace him. Right now we can't. Why can't Ferguson and Glover complement each other. Signing one doesn't necessarily exclude the other from the equation.

And as others have mentioned, I seriously question how successful we'll be if we go 3-4 full-time. Also, there's nothing to suggest we won't use both looks, creating confusion for opposing QBs.
Thank you to all donated to the Jason Witten Camp drive!

The only problem I have with staying in the 4-3 is the fact that there aren't many DEs this year that are capable of playing DE in the 4-3, but they would be great in the 3-4. And we don't have any DEs that are that are any good even if they are capable of playing in the 4-3. The only DE we have that I like at all is Coleman, but he would be my last choice to play DE in the upcoming season. So even though we don't have the players to go 3-4, when you think about it we don't really have a DE that would be any good in the 4-3 so I guess we are in a bit of a tough spot.
