Default Does Shawn Merriman = Terrell Suggs?

Honestly didn't see many of Merriman's games.

Can anyone provide a comparison?
"The ball ain't heavy."

-Herschel Walker, when asked if he got tired carrying the ball 30 times per game.

Merriman is more physically giften then Suggs (bigger, faster, stronger), but he isn't nearly as good of a football player as Suggs.

I think Suggs will always be a better pass rusher, but Merriman could become a better all around player.

Im thoroughly convinced that you (rack) have yet to see Merriman play.
If you had you would know what all the scouts are saying about him now are pretty accurate.

Merriman
has a great motor
is a work out monster
is 270lbs of solid muscle
is adapt at outside backer in a 3-4 or even a rush end in a 4-3

he did both at Md- averaged 8 sacks and 90 tackles his last two seasons

I Would say he is similar to suggs- a little more athletic than suggs- not the natural pass rusher that suggs is but a little better in space-

I'm thoroughly convinced that you are OBVIOUSLY biased when it comes to Merriman.

Are you gonna sit there and tell me Merriman is better then Suggs? C'mon, Man. Merriman is good. Real good, but he's not Terrell Suggs. Suggs DOMINATED at his position. Absolutely DOMINATED. Merriman did NOT dominate. He played very well at times, but did not dominate. Teams KNEW Suggs was their teams only threat on defense and he STILL dominated.

Seriously, it's ok to really like a player, but try not to be so biased about it.

I read both posts and it looks like you both are saying pretty much the same thing....

I'm not a big Suggs fan (because I think he's a one trick pony in one style of defense) but get real here...I think Merriman had 18 sacks total in college, Suggs had like 24 in one season

Merriman is exactly what Rack said...physically more gifted but right now is not as good a football player...Merriman wont be a top-10 pick either

He will be a top 11, becasue he want get past Dallas. We have yet to address the pressure player that Parcells wants, and Merriman's ability to play 4-3 and 3-4 is just what Parcells wants. Just like Ferguson's ability to play in a 3-4 or 4-3, Merriman is just as dynamic.

I think Merriman in in the Julius Peppers mold. He's a much better athlete than he is a football player. Merriman is a freak. He could have been very successful at basketball if he had stuck to it.
