Oh well, I guess we can officially call this proposed trade dead. It's a real shame, Howard could have helped this team. Instead, they'll draft a DE in the first round and wait three years to find out he's a bust.
Yes, the trade can still happen, but if it was going to happen the Saints would have pulled the trigger on it by now.

They have no reason to, their only dead line was for him to sign his tender, which he did. The dead line for today was for him signing a long term contract with NO, he can't re-sign now until July.
That does not make a trade impossible.

What are the implacations of NOs cap with Howard counting $7.8 million? I know that they can't sign him to a possible long term till July, which may "freeze" them till then, but with a cap hit like this, are they against the wall or do they have more room?
That's why they play the game

AdamJT13, our cap expert, said that the money comes off their cap the minute they trade him and they get their franchise tag back when he signs a new deal with his new team.
They are under no immediate pressure to make the deal.

I read Saints were $5M under Cap. But they are going to pay a Non All Pro DE $8M AND Had the dead *** worst D in the NFL Last year? They drafted Will Smith and will play him at DE. Howard played a lot of DT last year.
Saints blundered, they might have to accept a pure 2 or 3 from someone. At Howards demands, its not an attractive trade.
Why we didn't do the deal? - makes no sense at all the costs involved. Good job Parcells because this was an old JJ, Danny Boy type desperate move.......WE SMARTLY passed!

I realize that, but that wasn't the question.
What does it do to the Saints cap if he stays at the $7.8 million?
Not saying that he will stay as they could always trade him later for a 7th if they had to.
But with him now counting against their cap, what does it do to them?
That's why they play the game

Thanks.
I imagine that he will be playing elsewhere next year unless they cut or restructure some people.
Plus they need money for their draft picks.

Now THIS is funny....
A thread about posting guidelines regarding the Howard trade became a discussion about the Howard trade...
Hey, it's better than battles about QC vs Hutch...
