Default Redskins sign Prioleau

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - The Washington Redskins signed safety Pierson Prioleau on Wednesday and prepared to welcome free agent defensive end Courtney Brown for a visit.

Prioleau and Brown are cousins - and both were cut Monday after rejecting offers to restructure their contracts.

Prioleau was released by the Buffalo Bills. The six-year veteran turned down Buffalo's offer in part because he wanted to go to a team where there was a better chance for more playing time.

Prioleau started all 16 games in 2002, but he was relegated to mostly special teams duty last season. He was a fourth-round draft pick by San Francisco out of Virginia Tech in 1999.

Prioleau's signing reunites him with Redskins assistant coaches Gregg Williams and Steve Jackson, who both coached him in Buffalo. Prioleau will compete with starters Sean Taylor and Matt Bowen for playing time.

Meanwhile, former No. 1 overall pick Brown is expected at Redskins Park on Thursday and Friday, after first visiting the Denver Broncos. Brown was cut by the Cleveland Browns after five injury-plagued seasons. He spent the final 14 games last year on injured reserve after tearing a ligament in his foot.

"We're in the sweepstakes," coach Joe Gibbs told WTEM radio Wednesday morning. "Here's what it's going to come down to: He's been on IR every year. He's a terrific player. It's going to come down to how much money, and what does the doctor say."

Whats up with that? Joes medication must not be working if he thinks Courtney Brown is a sweepstakes. His medical dossier must read like war and peace

I'll be looking forward to the Cowboys matching up 6'-4" 250lb Witten against a 5'11'' 190lb Safety
