I wish that Tags would just go away. He has really damaged the NFL in my mind.

No surprise here. Jerry is a capitalist and knows how to make money. He agreed to and even pushed the salary cap structure which, while maybe not necessarily beneficial to the team's chances, helped catapault his franchise and the NFL to a very profitable business.
But let's not confuse the salary cap with socialism. Yeah, there's revenue sharing from the networks and yeah, a cap in gross salaries, but splitting the profits from his individual deals take away any motivation from the smaller franchises to go out and market their products.
Let's hope that full revenue sharing never passes.

It results in more money to certain teams, but NOT a competitive imbalance thanks to the salary cap.
No one can spend more than 85 million on players-- and getting players is the primary way to compete. In fact, sometimes spending more HURTS a team, especially if that team can't draft <cough>DALLAS<cough>!
Teams can spend money beyond this limit on coaches and can borrow from future capped years to pay out signing bonuses-- but are you telling me that a team which is guaranteed over 50 million in revenues beyond the 85 million in player expenses can't pay its coaches or signing bonuses??
What are they doing with the money they've been making???

wood, i think you totally mis understand what is happening.the nfl has revenue sharing for there tv deal, regular ticket sales, jerseys, etc now.the players want a bigger chunk of total revenue, and want to include money from other deals a team makes to make money.a good example are those little signs all over texas stadium.that money is jerry's because jerry, not the dallas cowboys, own texas stadium.he is not asking for more money,he simpley does not want to share money that he has figured out how to make on his on and has nothing to do with the nfl as a whole.if small market teams owned there own stadiums they could do the same thing

No this is completely different, for a variety of reasons.
First, the salary cap is based upon television revenues and does not include income from other sources. The system is effectively "idiot proof", you have to try very hard to spend more than you make.
Second, because there is a salary cap, you'll never have a team like the Yankees buying all the best players. Yes, the Cowboys may be the most profitable team in the NFL, but that doesn't translate to the ability to buy players.
Finally, and most importantly, if you start sharing revenues outside of the television contracts, you effectively penalize a team like the Cowboys for going out and marketing their product. A team like the Arizona Cardinals can sit back on their arse, do nothing and reap the benefits. You have to spend money to make money, and the Cardinals wouldn't care because they'd be guaranteed a portion of the revenue generated by the efforts of other teams.
See what I mean?
