The Broncos are trying to deal Trevor Pryce, who was informed of their plans nearly two months ago, to create salary cap room. Denver wants a draft pick in return for Pryce and would likely be open to trading its No. 25 overall pick and Pryce to move up significantly in the first round, as it did last year in a trade with Cincinnati that included cornerback Deltha O'Neal. Dallas could land Pryce if it doesn't trade for New Orleans defensive end Darren Howard.

I'd take him, but keep in mind that he's (a) older than Howard and (b) not as good. I could be wrong but I don't believe he's ever had a double-digit sack year. If we were going to sign a free agent from Denver, Berry was the one to get last year.

Oh yeah, and he'll want Howard style money.

2004: Pryce was hampered by a lower-back injury for the majority of the season and appeared in only two games (1 start) to post two tackles (both solo) and a pass breakup. He returned to the field for the first time in more than three months vs. Ind. (1/2), and made a solo tackle while playing mostly at defensive tackle in the first half. Pryce, who was forced out of the Colts game in the second half with lower-back pain, drew a loud ovation from the crowd when he made a first-quarter tackle. He missed 14 consecutive games recovering from Sept. 22 surgery to relieve a herniated disc in his lower back. When he missed Denver’s game at Jac. (9/19), it marked the first game he missed since Dec. 25, 1999, when he did not play at Detroit. Pryce recorded a start at right defensive tackle in the Broncos’ season opener vs. K.C. (9/12), moving inside to replace DT Luther Elliss, who was inactive with a right shoulder injury. Despite missing parts of the game against the Chiefs with back pain, he totaled a solo tackle and a pass breakup.

2003: Pryce—voted defensive captain at midseason, joining teammate Al Wilson—started all 16 games and recorded 51 tackles (41 solo) with 8.5 sacks (-58.5). He ranks sixth on Denver's career sacks list with 60. Pryce also forced two fumbles and recovered one on the season. In the opener at Cin. (9/7), he registered a sack (-6) of Jon Kitna among his three solo tackles and forced a fumble. In Wk. 4 vs. Det. (9/28), Pryce registered a then-season-high five solo tackles, including a sack (-8) of Joey Harrington, which came on second-and-26, forcing the Lions to punt two plays later. In Wk. 6 vs. Pit. (10/12), Pryce was superb in leading a dominant Denver defense, as he recorded three solo tackles including two sacks of Steelers quarterback Tommy Maddox. Pryce's first sack of the game came in the first quarter to force a Steelers punt, and his second came in the mid-third quarter on a 3rd-and-1 play from Denver's 42-yd. line with the Broncos clinging to a 7-6 lead. With the sacks, he moved into sixth place on the Broncos all-time sacks list, surpassing Paul Smith (55). In Wk. 7 at Min. (10/19), he matched his then-season high with five tackles (4 solo), including one sack (-7) of Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper late in the second quarter. Pryce recorded a season-high seven tackles (6 solo) in Wk. 8 at Balt. (10/26). Against S.D. (11/16), he recorded two solo tackles and his first fumble recovery of the season. Pryce registered six solo tackles, including two sacks (-15), and a forced fumble vs. Chi. (11/23) to post his ninth career multi-sack game, and second of the season. Pryce's first sack came when he stripped quarterback Chris Chandler of the ball and forced a fumble (-8), and the other came at the expense of backup quarterback Kordell Stewart in the third quarter for a 7-yd. loss. He played in his 100th career game vs. K.C. (12/7) and registered three tackles (2 solo). At Ind. (12/21), Pryce recorded three solo tackles, including a sack and a half of Colts quarterback Peyton Manning (-5.5), to post his 10th career multi-sack game and third of the season. The 10 career multi-sack games tie Pryce for seventh-most in franchise history. He also recovered a loose ball after Jashon Sykes blocked Colts punter Hunter Smith's punt. Pryce started and tallied two solo tackles in the Broncos' AFC Wild Card game at Ind. (1/4).

2002: Pryce—voted to start in the Pro Bowl for the fourth consecutive season—started all 16 games at left defensive end and posted 61 tackles (51 solo), including a team-leading nine sacks (-68), which tied for seventh in the AFC, as well as a pass defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Pryce had a sack in each of the Broncos' first three games and also posted 5.5 in a five-game stretch in mid-season. He brought his season sack total to nine with half a sack (-5) in the season finale vs. Ariz. (12/29). Pryce blocked a Steve Christie field goal in overtime at S.D. (12/1) that was recovered by Deltha O'Neal, the second field-goal block of Pryce's career. He had his seventh career multi-sack game at Sea. (11/17) with 1.5 sacks (-9) among his five tackles (3 solo). He posted three solo tackles vs. Oak. (11/11) before suffering a first-degree medial collateral sprain in his left knee in the 3rd qtr. Pryce raised his sack total to seven with a 7-yd. sack of Tom Brady at N.E. (10/27). He recorded his sixth career multi-sack at K.C. (10/20) with two sacks (-17) of Trent Green. Pryce recorded a season-high seven tackles (6 solo) vs. Mia. (10/13), including a sack (-9) of Jay Fiedler on which he forced a fumble and recovered it to set up a field goal. Versus Buf. (9/22), Pryce's one solo tackle was a sack of Drew Bledsoe for a 9-yd. loss. He dropped Jeff Garcia for an 8-yd. sack at S.F. 2001: Pryce—voted to start in the Pro Bowl for the third year in a row, while also earning second-team All-NFL honors from the Associated Press and College & Pro Football Newsweekly, and All-AFC kudos from Football News—started all 16 games at right defensive tackle and posted 55 tackles (42 solo), including a team-leading (tie) seven sacks (-50) while also adding three passes defensed and two forced fumbles. He recorded his seventh sack of the season at K.C. (12/16), dropping Trent Green for a 3-yd. loss, among his five tackles. Pryce recorded five tackles (4 solo) vs. Sea. (12/9), including a sack of Matt Hasselback for an 8-yd. loss in the 2nd qtr. Pryce made four tackles at Dal. (11/22), one for a loss, and caused a fumble. He added to his team-leading sack total vs. S.D. (11/11) by taking down Chargers quarterback Doug Flutie for an 18-yd. loss. Pryce made four tackles at Oak. (11/5) and caused a fumble that led to a Denver field goal. He posted his fourth sack of the season vs. N.E. for -6 yds., among his three solo tackles. His third sack of the season, vs. K.C. (10/7), raised his career total to 38.5 (42.5 by year’s end) to move into ninth on the Broncos’ all-time list, ahead of Dave Costa (37.5). Pryce also dropped Trent Green for a 4-yd. loss. His second sack of the season came at Ariz. (9/23) on Jake Plummer for a 3-yd. loss. Pryce’s first sack came in the opener vs. the Giants (9/10) on Kerry Collins and resulted in an 8-yd. loss.

2000: Pryce—voted as a Pro Bowl starter for the second consecutive season, while earning second-team All-Pro honors from College & Pro Football Newsweekly and All-AFC nods from Pro Football Weekly and Football News—started at right defensive tackle in all 16 games and posted 44 tackles (36 solo), including a team-leading 12 sacks (-76.5) as well as two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery (at Oak., 9/17) which he returned 28 yds. for his first NFL touchdown. Pryce ranked fifth in the AFC (T9th NFL) in sacks—No. 1 among defensive tackles (No. 3 NFL)—and recorded 5.5 (-33) in the three-game period of Weeks 5-7. His 12th sack came in the finale vs. S.F. (12/23) when he stripped the ball from Jeff Garcia for a 9-yd. loss. He posted sacks in back-to-back games, dropping Rich Gannon for a 4-yd. loss vs. Oak. (11/13) and Ryan Leaf for a 5-yd. loss vs. S.D. (11/19) to raise his total to nine for the season and made it four sacks in four weeks with his two sacks at N.O. (12/3). It was Pryce’s fifth career multi-sack game and gave him 34.5 sacks for his career to move ahead of teammate Maa Tanuvasa (33) for 10th on the all-time franchise list. He missed the second half at Cin. (10/22) with a knee sprain. In Week 7, he dropped Clev. quarterback Tim Couch (10/15) for a 5-yd. loss in Denver’s 44-10 win, a week after his stellar performance at S.D. (10/8) when he tied his career high with three sacks of Jim Harbaugh (-17). That performance was preceded by a 1.5-sack effort on New England’s Drew Bledsoe (10/1). The San Diego game marked the third time in his career Pryce had posted three sacks in a single game and was his fourth career multi-sack game. He posted a solo sack of Atlanta’s Chris Chandler (-8) in Week 2, on which he forced a fumble, and shared a 7-yd. sack of Chandler with Harald Hasselbach later in the game. Pryce started at right defensive tackle in the AFC Wild Card Game at Balt. (12/31) and posted a career postseason-high seven solo tackles and a pass defensed.

Here are Pryce's career numbers. Over all productive but I would not make this trade. Denver has to unload his contract. Pryce will be released or traded for a more reasonable price. If we are sure of his health, and I don't know how you can be, then maybe #20 for 25 and Pryce but not more. If we were to take Pryce, we'd be doing them a huge salary cap favor. Otherwise, not a good deal from my point of view.

He had the same surgery as Rivera. He lost strength in his right leg. He had a microscopic discectomy to remove a fragment of a herniated disc. His time table was four-to-six weeks. He has the surgery on Sept. 22nd, began practicing again on Dec. 8 and played again on January 2nd. He only made it through a half of that game before he had a back spasm.

As said above, Denver is desperate to get rid of him ... especially if they sign Courtney Brown. If you keep your options open and negotiate hard, you could probably get him for next to nothing.
