New Poster, Draft Question.
Hey guy's,I'm a long time reader, new member. Love this forum. My question is this. I would love to see us pick up Meriman at #11, however, he may very well be gone by then,if so, what do you guys think about Spears?
It seams to me that with the rest of our line, he would be a great end. Big and solid, good against the run,and with opposing offences having to double team Ferg. or La'roi, or Ellis - Spears could have a big rookie year! I know he would'nt be the sexy choice, but I believe
he could be just like Greg Ellis- not spectacular, but very solid and shore up our right end for the future.
Of course, this depends on if we end up getting Howard or not- I was all for it to start with, but now I could go either way.I like the idea of keeping our picks,as I think there are so many great possiblities to be had with our first 3 choices'.
Look forward to the input(Don't beat me up too bad!)
P.S. I live on Maui, so last Tuesday, I drove out to our airport to check out all the team jets.(For the owners meeting) It was pretty cool to see all the team logos on the planes. Of course, Jerry's plane was parked far away from the Deadskins - as it should be...

i like spears because he's an athletic big man, can play just about anywhere on the line in any base defense, and reminds me of leon lett physically, while actually displaying signs of cognitive thought. he'll be a fine pro.

Nice, you're living the dream. I'm trying to make as much $$ as I can here on the east coast so that I can retire to Oahu sometime in the next 10 years. The one thing that must suck is having to get up at 7am for the 1pm EST games on Sundays.
I'd really like to see the Cowboys go for D.J. or Mike Williams. On draft day I'll be begging and pleading for one of those guys to fall into our lap at #11.

 to the board!!!
Spears would be a pretty decent pick up. My choice at #11 depends on who is still available. The direction we go with that pick depends on the Howard deal also.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

It's actually pretty cool on Sundays, straight out of bed, straight to the couch...
Wife dosn't like it to much, but she's learnt to deal with it.

I live on the Big Island and I agree with you. Get out of bed and the pre-game is on immediately (6 a.m. when the rest of the country is on daylight savings time). Then watch both games and there is still plenty of time left to go to the beach.
Monday night sucks though. Our local ABC affiliate delays the broadcast until 6:30 HST. I have to duck all the news and ESPN's sports ticker if I don't want to know what the outcome is before the game is aired here.

Hey Leon, yeah monday nights suck! If its a Cowboys game, I always try to watch it live, find some reason to leave work early!.
I find I am very optimistic for this upcomming season, baring injuries, our offence(on paper) looks really promising. If Big Bill can draft well this year, I think we will have a great nucleus of players, both veteren and young. Hopefully, if they play well, Bill will enjoy himself this year, and stay on as coach, I believe he's building the team well and hope he continues.

I would have no problem with Spears. In fact if we don't do the Howard deal he is one of the players that I definately have targeted. In fact if Merriman or Spears are not there I'm for trading down for more picks. I think that even if Williams or Edwards were there at #11 I'd still take a trade down of about 4 or 5 spots and a 2nd and 5th. There are other WR's to be had a bit later (at #20) who I think will fill our needs just fine. And if we trade down and get more picks we still have shots at Pollack, Tuck, Ware and Blackstock among others.

I've never been out to the islands during football season, but I do remember that the nightly news is delayed that way and it felt like I was out of touch.
Still, a small price to pay to live in paradise!

I think Spears is a very real possibility for Dallas.
A few things that make me think that he could be the guy:
-- he's a big guy who plays a physical brand of football.
-- he played for Nick Saban and Parcells is pretty close to Saban.
-- I've read that he's been compared to Richard Seymore.
-- he definitely could play end in a 3-4 and maybe even in a 4-3.
"That's the fastest-running, slowest-walking guy I've ever seen."

I think Spears is a reach at 11. He's not a playmaker, nor is he likely to ever be one. Leon Lett? Give me Spears in the 7th round like we did with Lett and then I'll be a happy camper. But not at 11.

Aloha & welcome aboard Brah!
I use to live on Oahu back in the mid 80's...
Your right, it was cool to get up footballs on and then go body surfing! I lived 5 min from Sandy beach in Hawaii Kai.
I went to 2 Pro Bowls out at Aloha Stadium & caught one UH vs MICHIGAN game...Very cool place to watch a game!
I like Spears as well, but doesn't he play the same side as Ellis?
also agree he could play in a 3-4 or 4-3...
I think Parcells really goes for impact "pressure" players with our first 3 picks...
It should be fun, not too much longer to go until the draft!
Its also cool you went out to the airport to see the planes...You sound kinda like me, when I went down to meet Jerry & Bill at the Combine here in Indy...
Aloha!

Mornin. fellas, up early - its only just after 6.00 am out here. Thanks for the welcome.Living on Maui is great, theres nothing like the island lifestyle and the spirit of Aloha ! The time difference between here and most of the posters will make talking back and sometimes difficult. Oh well, things ya gotta do!!
For all us fanatics, this is a great time of year, but a long last month till the draft. So many different options for us, like I said earlier, Spears would be solid - if not spectacular. I really am hopeing for Merriman @ 11, but with many different ways to go, a high impact draft is really all we can hope for. We really are in the drivers seat with our two first rounders.
