I live for the NFL draft. Kind of reminds me of when I was a kid on Christmas morning. The night before you are so excited about what presents your might get the next morning that you can't fall asleep. I'm the same way now, the night before the NFL Draft. I can hardly wait to see what new player were going to pick up.

You say this was a few years ago, so you might have already figured this out by now. But, do you know that you can split the signal with your tivo, so you can record one thing while you're watching another? I've done it with all the tv's I have tivo on, and it's great. I'll tell you how to do it if you're interested.

Deal. When you try some NY style pizza and Buffalo chicken wings, we'll have to move you in because you won't wanna leave.

Happy Easter Pops.

As for me- I have a baby due in two weeks so my plans may be altered based on sleep deprivation etc. My usual routine is to have the computer on with this site, and other draft sites up while I watch the draft from beginning to end. I eat stuff like nachos, pizza etc-pretty much like a one man super bowl party- I have had friends over before but I kinda like being by myself on draft day.

Last year when we traded our first round pick I almost cried- I was sure teh rb we needed was within our grasps and then the trade took the wind out of my sails.

Any interesting draft day stories out there?
Me and Fletch sit back and watch the first day routine and post to the boards. It's just a good day to sit back, eat lots of food, and talk football all day.

The most memorable draft was when we picked up a very solid stock of players in 2002. I about soiled my pants when we let the clock run out and all the sports anchors were going "what the heck happened", we then commenced to drop back two spots and still were waiting for Roy Williams to fall to us... After KC picked up Ryan Sims, Minny was on the clock and that was who they wanted bad as well. I was cringing that Minny didn't take Roy because they said earlier that off season that he was one of the players they targeted, but just not quite that high... Roy had said out loud on talk shows that Dallas was where he wanted to be... I just didn't want another Randy Moss situation and that at the last minute Roy goes elsewhere and we get whipped everytime we faced him.

The worst draft was back in 1996 when I knew we needed defensive line help... I think the draft was at night back then and we were on the clock... UT DE Tony Brackens was right there for the pickings and we dropped back into the second round and passed on him. Well time went on and Tony Brackens had a pretty good career in Jacksonville and we of course picked Kavika "Fireball" Pittman who spent about 5 years here doing relatively little and averaging about 5 - 6 sacks per year... Also a liability against the run he went to Denver after that and has been injured about every year he has been there... One of my all time drafting "BONEHEAD" moves I blame on JJ.

I don't believe in team motivation. I believe in getting a team prepared so it knows it will have the necessary confidence
when it steps on a field and be prepared to play a good game... Tom Landry

If I don't make the draft in NYC, then I may hop on to the Texans draft PROUDLY wearing my Cowboys jersey! I did the same thing with the 1st ever Texans draft held in the 'Dome and NO ONE said crap about my 'Boys jersey! You Texans fans are such nice peeeople.....

While that draft was a decent one, the draft day when we traded Walker was wicked. Sitting in front of my TV watching all day had me thinking we would 10 super bowls in a row. I really wish the '75 draft would have been shown on TV like it is today.

This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

As funny as this sounds... I always watch it with my Mother.

Football is the one thing we do together.

I always watched football with my father... he was the one to taught me football. My mother was always there too, watching with Dad, yelling for the Cowboys.

My father died on Super Bowl sunday in 1991 (yes, really on Super Bowl Sunday), and ever since then, I've watched everything Dallas with my mother (my wife doesn't like to watch football and none of my friends really share my passion). She really doesn't have anyone to watch football with, so it has just become our thing that we do.

She knows her football too... I swear, some of the picks she wanted us to make would've been a heck of a lot better than what Jerry and Lacewell have picked.
"When you watch him play, you’re like, ‘Oh God, he’s going to kill somebody,’ and that’s what I like about the young man.” ~ Jerome Henderson on Cowboys rookie safety J.J. Wilcox

It used to be on a Tuesday morning and would start at 6 a.m. (Mountain Time). I would go out the night before (draft day eve was like Christmas Eve to me) and load up on junk food ... my usual draft deal meal back then was Dr. Pepper, pepperoni pizza and a Mr. Goodbar. I've since replaced the pizza with chicken wings.

When ESPN and the NFL moved it to the weekends, and made it more available for the casual fan, it wasn't quite the same anymore. I loved getting up when it was still dark, skipping my college classes that day, and watching Pete Rozelle, Chris Berman, George Grande, Bob Ley, Howard Balzer, Paul Maguire and Paul Zimmerman.

I can't remember when I got hooked but it was long before '82'. My first wife and my three boys usually watched the drafts with me but they couldn't stay put for the whole thing! Like most of you I really preferred to be alone.....me and my draft charts (at least 3 or 4), my pencil and paper and other assorted tools of the trade. In the early drafts there was not much media coverage, just a few stories in the local papers and a few remarks on the late TV sports news.....also NO COMPUTERS! Ugh! I recall that there were 12 rounds of drafting and everything was like in slow motion! Things really got to jumping when ESPN took over the draft and computers came on line (a little pun)....you could now find everything you wanted to know to enlighten your draft day. Now, as most old geezers do, I sit in my den, prepare all my charts and stuff, make sure I have plenty of Diet Dr Pepper (do we all like Dr Pepper because the home office is in Dallas?), assign chores for my 2nd wife (she is to check in about every two hours to see if I require food or other necessary draft items). Since she is from MN she is allowed to ask one question about 'how the Vikings are doing in the draft'. If I curse or holler she quickly realizes that the Vikings' selections are better than the Cowboys and exits rapidly. As I have grown older I have mellowed slightly and my cursing and screaming is more on a limited basis and that is probably good! Will April never get here! I am ready to get into an attack mode

Actually, I'm old enough (37) to remember when the draft was held on a WEEKDAY, which meant I missed it at school. Finally, the NFL wised up and moved it to Saturday.
