Default FSU Player draft breakdown (for Dallas)....

As it relates to Dallas's needs. The board is slow and obviously these are the players I know best, so here goes (potential 1st day guys only on this post, I'll do a seperate post for 2nd day guys)...

Alex Barron- Unless Mike Williams is sitting there at #11, I take Barron if he's still there, play him at LT and move Flozell to RT. If Dallas is not comfortable playing a rook at LT then don't pick him...Barron isn't cut out to play RT in the NFL. He's not physical enough. But he's a ridiculous athlete for his size and would be a great pass protector for 10+ years if healthy. He'll be an adequate run blocker.

Travis Johnson- I don't see where he fits in. If he's there at #20 it would be tempting....we need young DL and he's a good one. But he scares me a bit. Great talent, but only one great year of production at FSU for various reasons. High floor, low ceiling. I don't know if he fits in a 3-4. He played DE in high school but was DT all the way in college. He's a one gap player who can get in the backfield and disrupt, but not sure he would keep the OL off the LB's consistently. I like him at DT in a 4-3, but while we need depth there we can't use a 1st rounder on a DT with all our other needs.

Bryant Mcphaden- Physical CB with good speed. Bad hands, but good at batting balls down. He's 6 feet with good size. I think he'll be a solid pro. If he's there with the 2nd round pick I'd be tempted, but with all the $$$ invested at CB we seem to have our starters for the next 4-5 years. I don't see a fit here. He's not a potential saftey convert. If we trade down and have a 3rd and he's there, we have to take him.

C. Thorpe- This is risk/reward. Somone may get a HUGE steal with Cro. He wasn't himself his entire Senior year til maybe the bowl game when he had a nice game against WVU's secondary that includes pac man Jones. Prior to the bowl game he sucked, no other way to say it. But QB play at FSU last year was erratic at best. Of course, Thorpe's JR year prior to his injury, he was lights out. He's a deep threat with great speed, a nice vertical and a knack for going up and getting the ball (he's around 6'1). Thorpe was also a good blocker his JR year (not great). He actually got hurt blocking down field against NC ST. His senior year he played tenantive most of the season, hence why he's slipped and will likely be available in the 2nd round. If Dallas hasn't addressed fresh legs at WR at that point, Thrope is a good option IMO.

ok, no FSU players from this draft please...
and "if McPhaden is there in the third and we have a third WE HAVE TO TAKE HIM?""!?!?! um no, we have a project named Danzler and haven't found a position for him either
Barron is not tempting at 11. We need skill position players in a bad way. If DJ, MW, and Merriman are gone, the only choice is a trade down. I'd prefer Brown over Barron anyway because he could be had a few picks later.
Nope, not a FSU product I'd draft this year, but i will admit this is an anomaly
Still left to accomplish:
sign OT Winston or G Moore

I think Barron at 11 is tempting. I think has the least bust potential of nearly all the players in this draft outside of Mike Williams.
Got any info on BJ Ward or the two Chaunceys Stovall and Davis
I had an apartment and I had a neighbor, and whenever he would knock on my wall I knew he wanted me to turn my music down and that made me angry 'cause I like loud music... so when he knocked on the wall, I'd mess with his head. I'd say, "Go around! I cannot open the wall! I dunno if you have a doorknob on your side but over here there's nothin'. It's just flat."

Barron does tempt me and I think he would be quite good at RT as a rookie. He doesn't have to annihilate people just keep guys off the older QB. We already have a good run blocking core in the middle of the line. A dominant one if Rivera is where has been.

Johnson to me is only a fit if he somehow fell to 42 or we traded down from 20. I'd rate him about 30th.

McFadden is only the 6th or 7th CB for me and thats not a diss this is just a real sick class of CBs. Best I can ever recall. He wouyld be a great guy to grab as a potential best player available sceanrio if we do stock up on picks and have one in the 3rd round.

Cro I think will merit only 4th round consideration. He could be a player but may take 3 years to develop. A lot of WRs are slowish to develop and he is more raw than most.

He would be no higher than 8-10 at WR for me.

And I appreciate the hometown reports like this. A forum like this with folks from all over should have more.

I'll do a Texas Tech one tomorrow unless Chief wants to.
But I still don't know what any team saw Thursday night that would have made them comfortable with waiting a round or two for the offensive lineman they wanted. ---Todd McShay
We just converted half our LB to DL. We have a 30m starting DL, it better be pretty friggin good.

Default Regarding Thorpe

I understand the reluctance of using a high 2nd on Thorpe. Maybe a trade down is appropriate if BP likes him. I don't think he's around the 3rd (if we have one), cause he ran like a 4.37 his pro day at FSU.
