Updated: January 12, 2012, 12:48 PM ET

LSU All-American cornerback Morris Claiborne has decided to leave school a year early to enter the NFL draft, a source told ESPN's Joe Schad, and junior receiver Russell Shepard will follow him.

Claiborne, the third-rated player on ESPN Scouts Inc.'s draft board, led LSU with six interceptions this season and returned one for a touchdown. The winner of the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back also was LSU's top kickoff returner, averaging 25 yards per return, with one touchdown that went 99 yards.

I would love to get him but expect he will go well before the 14th pick.

He is probably thinking he needs to get the heck away from LSU as they can't seem to get a QB who could pass a ball his way.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) -- LSU All-American cornerback Morris Claiborne has decided to leave school a year early to enter the NFL draft.

Claiborne made his decision public in an announcement Thursday afternoon with head coach Les Miles at LSU. Also, defensive tackle Michael Brockers also said he is leaving school and will enter the draft.

Claiborne, who led LSU with six interceptions this season and returned one for a touchdown, also won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation's top defensive back. In addition, Claiborne was LSU's top kickoff returner, averaging 25 yards per return with one touchdown that went 99 yards at West Virginia.

Brockers' 54 tackles were seventh on LSU's defense. The redshirt sophomore was credited with 10 tackles for losses, including two sacks. He also had a forced fumble and intercepted a screen pass...

There's no right way to do the wrong thing.

To compete for the playoffs, Dallas has to improve here: Only four sacks against Eli Manning over the past six games!

Source: Claiborne leaving LSU early for NFL draft

LSU's Morris Claiborne is considered the top corner in the draft and a likely lottery pick.

Two people familiar with the decision say LSU All-American cornerback Morris Claiborne has decided to leave school a year early to enter the NFL draft.

The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because LSU has not announced Claiborne's decision. LSU has scheduled a press conference Thursday afternoon with coach Les Miles.

He is projected to be a potential top 10 pick in the draft....

Claiborne is a bit lean at 173 lbs... He's gonna need some bulk and strength to hang with the big boys.
Lee/Carter...the new dynamic duo
