Offseason Plan: Gamble Big
Romo does not have much of a window left - 5 years maybe. Cowboys have a lot of holes to fill on OL, DL and secondary. And they desperately need another pass rusher opposite Ware. The draft will bring in youth and talent, but may take 3-4 years to develop. Not enough time.
Jerry needs to take some risks in 2012.
Offseason Plan:
Option 1: Trade Rat to Cardinals for a 2nd. Ratliff is great, but he still has value, and for a 30 yr old, the time is now. Trade him to Cards so it serves 2 purposes:
frees up Calais Campbell
frees up NT position for bigger player
Option 2: Move all-pro NT to DE, sign/draft 330 plus NT. Sign elite pass rusher (DE or OLB). Trade Dez for a 1st.
FA: DL - 1st option (Calais Campbell), 1B (Mario Williams), 1C (Adam Carriker), 1C (Jason Jones), 2nd (Paul Soliai), 2B (Sammie Lee Hill), 2C (Antonio Garay)
OL - 1st option (Carl Nicks), 1B (Ben Grubbs), 2 (Jeff Saturday), 2B (Nick Hardwick), 2C (Olin Kreutz)
CB - 1st option (Cortland Finnegan), 1B Zackary Bowman, 1C Lardarius Webb, 1D Ronde Barber
QB - 1st option (Shaun Hill), 2nd (Chase Daniel)
*Lee & Carter need more size up front to roam (like 9ers) and make plays. The DL has be more dynamic (eat up more blocks & pressure the passer).
DRAFT
1 - DE Quinton Coples, 6'6 290 4.7, UNC
2 - LB Vontaze Burfict, 6'3 250 4.6, ASU
3 - NT Alameda Ta'amu, 6'3 340 5.1
4 - OLB Jake Bequette, 6'5 270 4.6, Arkansas
5 - OG Amini Silatolu, 6'3 330 5.3, Midwestern
6 - SS Lance Kelly, 6'2 205 4.4, Lou-Lafayette
7 - C Rodney Austin, 6'3 315 5.1, Elon

We should trade Dexter Coakley as well.
Rat would fetch a 4th rounder at best and Dez a 2nd maybe from a team like the Rams.
Players have no value in pre draft or draft trades.
Only chance you have of getting a 1st for Dez is right at the trade deadline and there is NO scenario that lands you a 2nd for Rat.

From one Bat to another: The effort is good, but this scenario doesn't seem plausible.

:::: sigh ::::
No way should we want to trade either Rat, or Dez.
I am sure you put plenty of thought into this, and it may create some discussion- but... uh....
