Default Cowboys trading down...

Cowboys | May Move Down, Not Up In Draft - from www.KFFL.com
Thu, 22 Apr 2004 20:28:10 -0700

Nick Eatman, of DallasCowboys.com, reports with only five selections in the draft the Dallas Cowboys could be looking to move down to acquire more choices. "With the few picks we have, it's probably not a good option for us to move up," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. "But we could (move down). That adds picks. More than likely, we would be going down, than going up."

I hope Jerry is just thorwing out smoke here. I mean if one of our guys sren't there then fine, but if we have a shot at Jackson or K. Jones we would have to pull the trigger on that at 22. I would hate to see us trade down with one of them there.

If Kevin Jones, Steven Jackson, or Shawn Andrews aren't there at #22 I could see a trade down as well.

I started a thread in the Draft forum regarding the possibility of trading down with NE for their 32 pick. THe Lions are wanting to trade down and NE is looking to trade up and get Taylor.

i would rather grab SJ or KJ or a top WR than trade down. (That's why i'm not at valley ranch and in front of this screen)

Dont shoot me...but I think there is a real possibilty (as others also stated in other posts) for the Cowboys to make a deal or two in order to move up and take S. Jackson.

You think that he's been reading our boards the last couple of weeks...Surely not....lol.......As long as we get a top notch player out of it, I dont care (imo) there isnt a big drop of between KJ and the rest of the bunch....

Moving down much more risky than moving up, IMO...

My concern about moving down is always that you could "outsmart" yourself by doing so...

We've seen that with Jerry before....move down to grab a few extra picks but then someone makes a selection earlier than you figured the player would go..and screws up the works....

IMO there is a dropoff between KJ and the rest of the bunch. If KJ and SJ are off the board I would like to trade down and draft Perry then in the 2nd round get Smiley/Snee. If we trade down from the spot but stay in the first what could we get? 2nd,3rd or 4th?

I totally agree. If that situation presents itself tomorrow I'm all for the trade down as well.

Actually, moving down is much more safer than moving up. There is safety in numbers. Jimmy Johnson didn't have a great batting average in drafting in the early 90's, but he had enough picks that eventually he hit some homeruns with guys like Erik Williams and Leon Lett, and forgot about the Anthony Wright's and James Richards.

The late first round has proven to be anything but safe.
