He's a very good driver - I have followed him since his ASA days when he drove the 44 and battled Adam Petty. Very good driver Jimmy is.....however, how much of that is due to Knaus? And.......since the "wing" was taken off, Jimmy is nowhere near as good as he was before.
I give the guy credit - I just find him incredibly annoying and fake.

He might have 5 but they seem empty or meaningless in some sense. Kind of like the Kurt Busch championship, except its times 5.
These championships under the Chase dont seem as meaningful. When Dale Sr won his 7 he earned them. DW has 3 and I value those 3 much more than JJ's 5.
Last year was a great Chase, and Tony is the Man, but its just not the same as the previous winners pre-Chase.
NASCAR needed to do something to add excitement. I get it. But its just not as good to follow as it was pre-Chase. The sport is missing something but Im not sure what it is. Its just lacking.
Dale Sr was the sport and nobody ever stepped up to take his place. Gordon is a lil snot nosed punk whiny butt wipe. Jr had the opportunity and carried the torch on the plate tracks for a while, but he just doesnt have what his dad had. Nobody does apparently. Too many lil wimpy guys in the sport now. Nobody has any real character or unique qualities.

Wouldn't hurt my feelings at all either.
This is a team who is battling several major injuries to
key players including Pro Bowl talents like Lee, Austin, Jenkins, Murray,
Carter and Ratliff. Other key starters missing include Costa, Smith, Church and
Coleman. That is 11 key players - that's half the starting lineup. Yet we still went 8-8.

And all the other drivers.
Gordon may have had the car that was the class of the field back then, but he will never be Sr's equal in any regard. He just isnt that good. Never has been that good. Girls and girlie boys root for him. True race fans never have.
End of story.

With all due respect, if you don't think Jeff Gordon is a good race car driver, you are clueless. You may not like his personality or the fact that "girls and girlie boys" as you say, like him but the fact that you don't recognize his talent is ridiculous. Further, he didn't (and doesn't) have to run through and over other drivers to get his wins like #3 did so often.
I don't particularly like Jeff Gordon, don't get me wrong - but he is one of the best drivers NASCAR has ever seen. Like it or not. That is certainly not taking away anything from #3 as he is one of the greatest ever as well.

Obviously the guy is a decent driver. He has a lot of wins.
Did I say he wasnt?
I simply stated that he wasnt as good as Sr. Never has been. Never will be. And that could be said about every other driver that has ever raced in the Cup series.
I wouldnt go as far as saying he has been one of the best ever. Good, but not so sure he fits in the best category. Sure he has a lot of wins. But he clearly had a car that was better than the rest when he was getting the most of his wins. Put him in any "equal" scenario and you dont see him shine so much. And thats why most serious race fans arent big fans of his. He tends to be popular with the ladies and wimps. Go to any track and observe who is wearing the 24 stuff.
