Yep he's impressive but we've got more needs. If they want to spend a 4th rounder or later on a LB then that's OK

There is interest in Luke. Lots of people have expressed interest in him.
Personally, I'd be ok with drafting him. He's just not my first choice. But if the draft fell so my preferred players were not available, I would not be upset about taking him at all.

We have essentially invested two firsts at the position. We believed both Lee and Carter were 1st round talents that slipped.
So spending another 1st, this time a "real" one seems a bit wasteful so so many other needs.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

Oh, and I wouldn't pass on Luke if he is BPA because we have Carter. Luke is a blue chip player, in my opinion. And I would never pass on a blue chip player as compared to an unproven player. Worst case scenario, one of them pans out. Best case scenario, you have two studs at ILB and can use them for scheme versatility or trade bait.

If we hadn't taken Carter last year, this would be my pick without a doubt. But as others have said, we have needs elsewhere. Heck of a talent though....I can see us looking back years later and saying, dang, we could have had this guy.
It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.

Look I am that guys biggest fan here...he is my pet cat this year and by far the best defensive player I saw all year bar none
Three passions, simple but overwhelmingly strong, have governed my life: the longing for love, the search for knowledge, and unbearable pity for the suffering of mankind. These passions, like great winds, have blown me hither and thither, in a wayward course, over a great ocean of anguish, reaching to the very verge of despair....Bertrand Russell

He has one of the smallest bust chances of any of the players.

I'm all for taking him if he happens to be the BPA at 14 but he won't. On the off chance that 14 comes around and DeCastro, Poe and Glenn are all gone, I'd be fine with trading down to grab him.
I've said it before and I'll say it again -- it doesn't matter what positions we needed when we selected guys like Ware and Sean Lee and Murray and Witten. What matters is that we got the right guy. Passing up a potential blue chip super star (if that's how the FO feels about him) because you want to see what you've got in a backup would be foolish.
The truth almost always lies somewhere in between...
Except on CZ.

+1
If we can address CB and Interior OL in FA then I think we can lean more towards a BPA approach, we need help everywhere on defense and he looks like the total package at LB. A Kuechly-Lee tandem would be the heart of our defense for years.
