Edwards signs one-year deal with Dolphins
April 4, 2005 DAVIE, Fla. (AP) -- Cornerback Mario Edwards signed a one-year contract Monday with the Miami Dolphins. The 6-foot, 200-pound Edwards could wind up being a replacement for longtime starting cornerback Patrick Surtain, who is being sought by the Kansas City Chiefs. Dolphins coach Nick Saban said last week that trading Surtain remains an option, but also said he's still hopeful Surtain could remain in Miami. A five-year veteran, Edwards has played in 73 games, including 50 starts. He spent four years with Dallas after going there as the Cowboys' sixth-round draft pick in 2000, then played last season for Tampa Bay -- which had the NFL's top pass defense. Edwards, a member of Florida State's 1999 national championship team, has four interceptions and three fumble recoveries in his pro career.

The Dolphins signed him for depth......most likely Dime-back behind Madison, Howard and Poole if even if Surtain is traded.
In that role....he's more than adequate. Not like he would start there....what sort of franchise would have Mario Edwards as a starting CB???????? |
