In other words, he had somebody with a generous trigger finger working the stopwatch

Funny how often that happens at Pro Days...

Pro day results are invariably .10 faster than combine results. That's why I never pay attention to pro day 40s. You already know that the prospect will 'improve' on their combine time.

To be fair, the way they measure it at the combine sometimes leads to slow times, because some guys just start with a windup that leads to slower times.
I don't think Childs is a 4.41 guy, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's not a 4.55 guy either. The truth probably lays somewhere in the middle.
We need wins, and that's all we need. I don't give a damn about anyone on this roster over wins. I'd trade Ware, Lee and Dez if it meant more wins.

The results are here:

Childs did run a faster time, but on the chart you will see Joe Adams ran the same time from the combine, so Childs time might not be as far off as you think.
As for prodays and the numbers from them, some are just inflated, but Arkansas does have 40 national championships in track & field and cross country.....they might know a little on how to run something like this.

I'd still like Adams 4th round or so. Franklin had a nice 40 time today.

You will be hard pressed to find athletes who run slower at their pro-day than they do at the combine. It's ALWAYS faster at the pro-day. They use hand held stop watches, and it's in their favor to have their athletes do well.

What do you mean they start with a "windup?"

The pro day times are invariably faster because of the human element. You have a scout sitting 40-yards away at the end of the track clicking start on his stopwatch when he sees movement from the runner. It's humanly impossible to get accurate without losing a couple tenths of a second in delay and accuracy (ie. benefits the runner).

The official times are just for us anyway. All the team scouts use their own stop watches.

Some guys don't start as clean as others and they start the time on first movement. Usually, if it's bad, they'll stop them and make them restart but not always.

Do they use an electronic timing setup like the combine for the 40?
